Mixing NimH batteries

Is it all right to mix NimH batteries of different brands and capacity to operate a flashlight?
 
No.

If you mix capacities, the low-capacity cells will be exhausted first, and then a reverse current will be driven through them.

This ruins the cells.

As for mixing brands, because different makers have differing standards of claims and testing, you cannot be sure of the exact capacity - it can be less, or (believe it or not) more than the label.

Hence mixing brands means you will more likely than not be mixing capacity, and... ...see above.

But there is nothing stopping you popping them in for a quick test, just don't leave them like that.
