Is there I way I can wire my spotlight to a motorcycle battery?

I've got a rechargable light, the internal battery (SD640 6V4Ah) will not hold a charge anymore.

The light has a feature where it wont light up when it is plugged into a power source and I guess I need to know how to bypass that feature...

I want to wire the light to a motorcycle battery I've got possibly using one of the supplied cords that came with the light and carry the battery in a backpack.

Thanks

:welcome:

Which ever wiring leads attached to the stock, internal battery, connect the pos and neg wires from you motorcycle battery to those same to leads. Remove the non-working battery of course. Practically any standard automotive wire will handle that load or you can take the end off an existing 12V lighter plug and install your own connectors to fit the connectors on the light. I would install your choice off connectors vs. hard soldering. Utilize the inline fuse if it had one on the previous configuration...probably 10A.

If the motorcycle battery is 12 you can change the bulp to a 12 volt

if you want to use the surplyed cord ,make sure that there isnt any resistor in there ,,there properly IS one
charging a 6 volt from a 12 volt cigarette outlet normaly means some resistor somewhere

by the way , a new 6volt 4AH sealed battery dosnt cost much

Thanks for the welcome this is a good site.

The battery is 'Yuasa Battery YTZ102 Maintaince Free factory activated' so its sealed off and will not leak or vent in my pack. Sorry I should have said earlier that is a 12V.

It blew the bulbs on both the lights I have available to use for this project.

Not willing to tear into my NightBlaster yet.

Anyone have suggestions on a bulb to get and wiring it. Or any other threads where I can find that information?

Thanks

If it's 12V then all you need is a 100W 12V bulb. The base is probably the H3 type.

Here are various pics of the H3 to help you decide if it looks like the same bulb base are the stock bulb.

Here is a high quality replacement but they can also be found for $4 if you search.

As member "anybodyoutthere" already stated, remember to remove the resister from the power cable that your using, if it has one.

Just a little something to add, motorcycle batteries are usually of the flooded type, not something I'd want to carry in a backpack because of the possibility of an acid leak. You could probably find a small AGM/Gel battery to use externally, then you wouldn't have to worry about tipping or cracking the case.

That said, you'll most likely need to open the case to modify that circuit. You may as well upgrade the bulb, or even just replace the internal battery. If you destroy the light, you can pick those things up for ~$10 at most hardware/auto stores.

thanks Patriot now I know what I am looking for.

I already have the case open and old battery and bulb removed.

electromage, that battery I have is completely sealed off. good looking out though that could be messy.

This light is one of the cheap-O gander mountain generic lights.. If I had the HID box and bulb laying around would it be worth taking the extra steps to install that or would the effort be better suited to a light with a better cone reflector and such?
