Do you have one of these?

The Cree is only sitting on a small circuit board without any heat sink.

Remove the Cree from the circuit board, remove the excess length from the

switch
pins and AA to a TO9 transistor heat sink.

I haven't resoldered the leads yet, just waiting for the AA to set. I know it's
not a huge heat sink, but it would have to work better than the original set up.

I have it all back together now, I did have to drill new the holes
for the leads as the old leads are under the heat sink,
but there is plenty of room, 2 seconds with a 1mm drill bit. :)

"TO9 transistor heat sink" can you tell me where to get these for cheap?

wow....

imagine those with a lathe and/or mill and have copper or alum raws with them...

i think their heat sink will be massive :)

Mine were out of the parts draw, probably 30years old, but I'm sure any component supplier would have them, even Tandy in Australia sold them years ago. I hope I'm right saying TO9, I'm sure that's the designation.

Nice work Norm...

now you have a heatsink, why not replace the cheap driver & use 4 lithium AA cells in a 4p or 2p2s config?? (depending on driver used)

come on buddy, herb her up a bit more...
