Modifying this old Dorcy Luminator I found in my drawer

I came across this light that I presume was given to my wife by her father when she went away to college back in 2000. I think he had owned it for quite a while. It has quite a lot of scuffing on it, and I replaced the D batteries to no avail, so it probably needs a new bulb. Anybody know of a good drop-in LED module and/or new glass lens for a light like this? Here's some photos:

There are some PR-type drop-ins that should work. I've seen them at the local Ace hardware store and on the big auction site. Not really bright, but should be better than the original bulb....
