I've owned a Surefire 6p for the past 6 or 7 years and absolutely love this little flashlight, very bright compared to the mini-mags I use to carry and even brighter then the Big 6 D cell Mag that I owned years ago. Currently the 6P is being used quite a bit, I've never even burned out the lamp but have went through alot of batteries. Im now considering trying something beyond the Surefire line and looking at this:

DBS V3 3SM MC-E Flashlight

From everything I have read about this it will out shine my 6P. I want something that can shoot a nice beam across my field and also provide a great flood light when I need to light up the area. My only concern is batteries, It takes two different types 18650 or 2xRCR123 protected batteries, which is the best route to go regarding batteries? And are these rechargeable? Which batteries will give me the longest life?

Or is their another light I should be looking at?

Take your pic.

These lights in this chart are dedicated for high output and will generally be better for flood and/or throw than the DBS MC-E.

However.......read reviews, and that is where you will find an answer to your need.

Check out the Olight M30 it has great flood and should light up your field it uses many batterys in different configurations to.

This light with the MC-E won't run on a single 18650. If you use these batteries, you need two and a body extender to fit it. The RCRs work without, but at significantly decreased runtime. I have the light with 2 18650s and the batteries last about 1.2 hours on high, much longer on med and low. The DBS can't regulate on one 18650 and it doesn't have the volts to push it with the MC-E LED. The RCRs have the voltage, but can't handle the draw, so they don't last... Its a trade off. Size vs runtime.

However, for the money and if you insist on a Quad Die LED, I replaced mine with the Olight Triton. It can also use the two 18650s and includes the extender to fit them. The light is also a little brighter and has a better beam (although better is in the eye of the beholder). To compare, the DBS MC-E throws a little further than the Olight, but the Olight lights up a back yard like daylight. Throw isn't too bad either.

I have been meaning to order a couple 18500 so I can use them my M30 without the extender tube. From the runtime chart I seen it will be about 23-25 minutes less than using 18650 but I think the trade off for smaller will be worth it.

I have been doing some beamshoots recently with the big led lights. They are all collected here: http://www.lygte-info.dk/review/Reviews UK.html

WOW! HKJ I had seen your MC-E comparison before it seems you have updated it with some more pics and done the same thing for many more lights.

This is an instant classic review of all these lights, dang dude all I can say is THANKS. :grin2:

I agree.....very nice HKJ. Nice collection you have there!

For the original poster...this is a comparison thread of your top High Output Throwers.

It compares the EagleTac M2X, Sunlite 16wFP, JetBeam M1X, and ElektroLumens P7 LongThrow.

If throw is what you want, then any of these 4 lights will satisfy you. Happy Hunting!:naughty:

So are you guys saying that the Deree DBS V3 is not bright enough in throw to compete Ryan's three test lights?

Or with the other lights listed in the chart above? Is this really the case?

Whoa.

I've owned a DBS V3 (non M-CE) using 1x18650 for a year now and am impressed by it every time I use it. So, I've been out of the loop of new lights coming in.

There's actually 4 test lights altogether in that review. The P7 Longthrow is added in halfway through the 1st page.

The DBS MC-E will not compare in terms of throw to those 4 lights. They are the top throwers in the High Output category.

Keep in mind, Jetbeam is coming out with the Raptor-3, which uses an MC-E with 3x18650 batteries(not sure if it will be designed for throw....since they already have the M1X).....and Sunlite is also releasing soon 2-500 lumen throwers. 1 with 40mm head and another with 53mm head. Both use a single 80mil chip.

Exciting things on the horizon!

I would suggest The Fenix TK11 R2, i own a Fenix TK11 and its very little, its fit perfect in your hands and you can use it as a fast deep impact weapon with the head of the torch. The Fenix TK11 give very much light. I was this sunday in the forest and its a *** nice light :D :paypal::hitit:
