Evening, ive just bought this light after lurking through this forum for ideas, now i see there is a d bin p7 emitter light out there, would it be much trouble to mod this light at all, i am of course a total newb to all of this.

Am i right in assuming the spec's for a p7 are around 2.8a draw and 4v.

Am i right in thinking i'll need a hot air gun to melt the glue in the head and the epoxy under the emitter?

Would it be worth my while replacing the wiring for a thicker guage to bump the amerage or is the 2 mode sufficient in this respect?

Sorry for all the questions, ive been lurking for a while so have a lot to ask.

It's not worth the effort to change the LED to a D bin, probably won't see any difference.

Not sure which MTE P7 you have, as there're several going by that name. But there's a long thread around here somewhere with a lot of info on one of them.

From what I see, most P7s are around 3.5-3.6v at 2.8 amp.

Then switch to D bin won't give you much of an improvement.

Depending on how the LED is installed, you might or might not need heat to get the LED off.

As for thicker wire, I'm not sure.

Don't bother replacing the wire unless you're modding skills and equipment are up to snuff. It only increases output about .2 amps.

Thanks for the replies, this is the light i was on about, i will post up any future buys should i ask anything else. :)

I do have reasonable skills when it comes to soldering, i had to do a circuit board a while back, it snuffed in the end but only as i never done it before, now i feel fairly proficient.

I'll try to find that thread, i plan to buy another at some point and mod this one.

Actually another question, anyone know any good uk online places for leds or bits and bobs like emitters or bike light holders, this will be my current use but most clamps ive seen aren't very sturdy and im not so keen on my lockblock.

Thanks for the welcome btw.

You'll need a hot iron for the emitter probably a 45 watt. The P7 heat sink draws heat fast, and the last thing you want is to roast your LED because you had a weak iron, remember you should never have to hold your iron down more than about 5 seconds to make a joint.

This one is better and cheaper IMO. I got two MTE P7 needed to be fixed so no more MTE for me.
