I had 4 Rayovac "C" cell Alkalines that were still very fresh (practically no run time and a long time left on their "good until" date). They were in an Underwater Kinetics C4 eLED dive light, with the switch locked in the "off" position, and they leaked.

Since the dive light body is corrosion resistant only the LED light engine was damaged, so I contacted Rayovac to inquire if I could send back just that part (I also had an incandescent module for that light) but they told me I had to return the whole light.

So I packed it up and sent it off... a couple of weeks later I received a package in the mail, with 4 "D" size batteries and an apology letter. Note that I returned a light with "C" batteries, and they replaced them with "D" size. :ohgeez:

The letter enclosed with the batteries indicated that my light was being processed by another department and I should be hearing from them soon.

Well, to add insult to injury I got a check for $54.99 from Rayovac as compensation for the $125 dive light their batteries damaged.

"We thank you for contacting us and we hope you will continue to use our products with confidence." :shakehead

Um... NO!

My 1AA ROV Xtreme headlamp's electronics went belly-up whenever the ambient temps dropped below 50 degrees F or so. I mailed it back (lifetime warranty.)They sent me back one of their 3AA headlamps. Not a bad headlamp, but I wanted the 1AA for camping. I called them and made it very clear what I had sent and what I got in return. She assured me she would send out a 1AA Xtreme. She sent another brand new 3AA headlamp. They got it right the third time, and I got two free 3AA headlamps out of it.

I have yet to see a brand of Alkalines not leak if left in an electronic device for extended amounts of time...

I would call their customer service and talk to them if you haven't cashed the check already. It sounds like they have people that are not on the ball in that department and just sent you the money for the original light module instead of the price of a whole light.
I had a rayovac 8D 18 watt lantern I bought at a flea market for $5 that did not work right. It drained batteries sitting there so I contacted them and sent it in and got a brand new one from them. It made the lantern cost me $13 total.

I am in the habit of keeping extra batteries in my home for those 'emergency" situations that sometimes happen. To that end, several years ago I purchased a 7 pack of size D batteries. The batteries were in the original package and still had over a year on the warranty. After we had moved to a new state, I needed the batteries and cut open the package only to find all of the batteries had leaked and were useless. I contacted Rayovac and they advised to send the batteries back to them which I did. After two months they sent me a check for the return postage but no compensation for the ruined batteries nor any replacement batteries. So much for the Ravovac warranty! From now on, I'll use a different brand. No more Rayovac batteries for me!
