So I can't stand all this talk about the "new" KL1 so I break down and order it direct from SF to make sure I get the latest version.

It takes 2 days for it to ship!!....yikes what a wait, I almost called them to see what was taking so long to ship since almost all my orders from them ship that day or next day. Anyway, I'm tracking this thing on UPS and notice it is going to the wrong location.....

I get home and nothing....so I go online to track and I see this:

"Oct 18, 2004
12:15 P.M.
VISALIA, CA, US
AN INCORRECT ROUTING AT A UPS FACILITY CAUSED THIS DELAY;THE PACKAGE WAS MISSORTED AT THE HUB. IT HAS BEEN REROUTED TO THE CORRECT DESTINATION SITE"

DOH!!!

Now I can't wait...again....

So when I finally get this thing, I'll try it out this on a night hike...how is the runtime on this?

End of my miserable story.... /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/frown.gif sorry, had to share it since I'm frustrated...

Wow, that sucks...

I have been doing some run time testing using my 2x123 L4 body and McE2S (15ohm)

I ran it on low for 7 hours Saturday night, then for another 7 hours on Sunday night.

The KL1 is still preaty darn bright on them batteries.
I will put the same set of batteries in tonight and see if it makes it another 7 hours on low.

I'm guessing it will.

This coming weekend I will test it on high to see how long it runs.

I'm preaty sure someone posted a run time chart for the new style kl1, but I can't seem to find it.

Good luck getting you KL1....

Woohooo. Thanks for the runtime update. I've never had UPS mis-route a package of mine so I'm quite dissapointed.

I want to take this on 4-5 hour hikes. Does it stay in regulation for the whole time? Or does it fall out and deminish after awhile?

Thanks again..

Ordered Wed. Shipped on Friday. Was scheduled delivery today (UPS ground is only 1 day here in SoCal).

I ordered a few boxes of batteries to get free shipping.

AAAAAAAAAAAHHHHHHHHHHHHHGGGGGGGGGGG!!!

Thanks! Looks like 2 cells are the way to go... Over 2.5 hours of constant light. WOOOHOOOO. Thanks again. I LOVE this place....(CPF) Group Hug!!!!

Don, those runtime graphs are on high though - yes? Do you have them using the 15 ohm in place? Forgive me if they've already been posted.

sigman,
I didn't do a runtime on the low (15 ohms) because my attension span just isn't up to it! /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/blush.gif

OK, you pick one: 1x123 or 2x123 and I'll give it a go. Man, I have eaten up a bunch of batteries with these dang run time tests! (light meter and Fluke as well! /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/tongue.gif )

...making me feel bad...I'm going to find a corner. I understand, there are so many differnent resister values & battery configurations...I'm sorry, I'm going to be quiet now. I think this is the one of the few times I've really felt bad here on the CPF!

Ahhhhhhh - just joking (well maybe not)! /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/grin.gif

My vote is for the 2x123 15ohm run test, thanks!

I would even be more then happy to send you a few buck to cover your batteries.

I'm sure you time is worth more then what I can aford, but thought I could atleast send you a little something for the batteries. /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/smile.gif

I would just love to see a run time chart for my KL1/15 ohm.. /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/smile.gif /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/smile.gif /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/smile.gif

My "KL1 frustration" is that I ordered one on Oct.6, and the Surefire website still says "waiting to ship." Is it normal for Surefire to have vastly different delivery times that bear no relation to when someone places an order?

There is still a "3 to 4 week" backorder, as the new KL1's are "still in production". /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/jpshakehead.gif

In 'SureFire Time', "3 to 4 weeks" means '3 to 4 months' in 'real time', IIRC. /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/icon23.gif /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/poke2.gif

Talked to SF Customer Service this morning, 10/19/04. /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/frown.gif

???? Am I getting old stock? DOH. It shows delivery re-scheduled for today....I'm going to return it if its the old style!! Usually, even if it's backordered, you can call and convince them to go find one to ship out. I'll call them and ask if the one they shipped me is old or new style....

Don ... my memory may fail me but didn't you post a runtime on 2x123 of just more than 2 hours and not 3 hours like in this graph some time ago ??? /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/duh2.gif

I don't think you will be getting the old style.
If you do, let me know befor you send it back as I maybe interested in adding it to my collection. /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/smile.gif

Ok,

I just checked UPS.com and it shows delivered along with another order I placed on Thurs. I have 2 KL1's so I may want to sell one.

Can't wait to get home....

Bernhard,
I just did these tests on 123 cells but I did post some 1xR123 and 2xR123 a while ago. That is probably what you are thinking of. I am currently running the KL1-2x123 with 15 ohm resistor, as requested. The 15 ohm is too bright on 2x123, IMHO and I expect the runtime will show this. I believe the 15 ohm is better suited for the 1x123 and a higher resistor would be better for the 2x123 but we all have opinions now, don't we! /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/nana.gif
