My new Surefire E1B Backup (silver color)!!

Candle Power Forums

Help Support Candle Power:

Last friday I realize that E1B gets really warm (almost hot) during a long time use. That´s never happened with my L1, even with it turned on for more time.

I know it´s a good thing (thermal dissipation working). I use it during a wonderful night in my ranch, while working near a river. It was a fresh windy night, but the light´s got REALLY warm... almost hot.

Oh, and it impressed all my friends with it´s output. Everybody asked me how they can buy one. In total darkness, white beam could reach trees that were almost 90 meters away!

I wondered... maybe SF can give comissions for those who helped with the propaganda... :grin2:

With Surefire, you can forget about finding exact bin.

It sports a Cree XR-E.

Hmmm. I lost the tint lottery bigtime on my earlier E1B and it's been in the drawer due to inaction on my part. I was thinking about rolling the dice again and getting another Backup from the friendly folks at 1sks.com

But, I just got a couple of Cree XR-E's from Deal Extreme, if I can get past the loctite, maybe I'll do an emitter swap.

If it's really bad I think you can just send it to Surefire and they'll send you a new one. Since it has a lifetime warranty I'm not sure I'd crack it open just yet.

Hey Vox, I lost the lottery with my L1 too (terrible greenish tint on low mode). But this new E1B tint is almost perfect. Cool to neutral white! I´m very happy with it´s tint.

You are absolutely right, but I'm tempted to attempt the swap anyway. I've also got a Cree star that I'm going to try to put in my wife's early model SF U2. Her light comes apart easily and looks like I just need to pop off and unsolder the Luxeon star and replace it with the Cree. If it doesn't work and I don't blow the electronics, I can put the original emitter back in.
