Just some impressions of my brand new Surefire E1B Backup (silver color).

Warning: PIC HEAVY!

We don´t have enough pics of this little beauty in CPF, so I´ll post some.

This is my first E1B.

GOOD: I love it´s size! It´s tiny, smaller than I thought. I love it´s finish too. It is HA, in silver color. It gaves you the impression of that good old Surefire HA. Finish is superb, and it has a solid feel in hand, like all my Surefires. Beamshape is perfect! No cree rings while white wall hunting, and it throws a lot for it´s size! Throws a little more than my L1! I like the clip a lot too. It´s natural color, so it will not scratch or loose paint with use (like those black painted clips). I also love the 2 mode UI, with powerful mode first!

BAD: I didn´t know that, but in my sample, the clip touches the tailclickie. So, everytime that you unscrew the tailclickie, the clip scratches it. That is the ONLY bad thing about the light.

RELATIVE: My E1B has a cool white tint. It´s not like my greenish (and terrible) L1 tint. It´s just cool white, but you can´t see blue or purple signs in it´s beam (happily). I liked a lot, but it´s not PERFECT like my Lumapower Incendio "vanilla cream" white tint.

CURIOSITY: I didn´t know about that either, but you can´t change batteries from behind. I mean, you have to unscrew the head to change the battery. Is the older black model the same ? Actually, that´s a good thing because if you don´t have to unscrew the tailclickie, it will not be scratched by the clip!

Another thing... It looks like it has a polarized window, or something like that. You can see a kind of colored finish over the glass while reflecting things, and I can´t see that in my Surefire L1. I mean, it looks like those camera lens. I´ll try to post a pic showing it. In it´s package it says "Pyrex lens", just like my L1, but my L1 doesn´t have this colored film over the window.

Well, that´s it!

I am very happy with it!

It will be my new EDC, due to it´s size and power. If you´re thinking about it, don´t think! Buy it! This little light is awesome! Beautiful, tiny, powerful, with a superb finish!!

Bye! :twothumbs

UPDATE:

1- I miss a lanyard hole. I attached a lanyard on the clip. It works well... I´ll post a picture later.

2- I realize the head became warm during use in high mode. I didn´t use it for a long time, but you can feel it warm while in hand. My L1 also has the "Caution: Hot Surface" warning, but it never got hot during use on high mode.

3- In comparison, my L1 feels more solid in hand if compared with this E1B. Both have outstanding finish and machining quality, but the L1 gave me the impression that it´s more solid, more strong. Maybe it´s the weight, or the knurling...

4- Grip: I realize the grip is better than I thought. Those little grooves around the body gives a good grip, specially when you hold with your fingertips. I mean, obviously the famous Surefire knurling (like in L1) is better, but I think E1B´s grip is better than my Fenix L2D CE grip (which also has no knurling).

Thats a good looking SF =) I think that may be my GF's next light. That way she'll leave my brighter lights alone lol
Ohh yea, great pictures!

Nice review & photographs, Federal_LG.

:goodjob::kewlpics::thanks:

Do you find it "slippery" to hold,

since it doesn't appear to have any knurling ?

Thanks Burgess...

No, I don´t. I mean, it doesn´t have that "SF knurling grip" that we can feel while holding a L1, but I don´t felt it slippery at all. No problem with that!

lol, All E series lights behave the same way...I was panicking when I first bought an E2e:ohgeez:

Had the same issue with my Eagletac P10A. Simple fix to that issue... Wrap the last 3 fingers of your left hand around the light, from the bottom. (Be sure the clip is at the top, with the bezel pointed towards your body; and the back of your hand up towards the ceiling). Your thumb and index finger should be on either side of the clip. (Width-wise, not length-wise). Just pinch the clip between your thumb and index finger, then gently lift up the clip. Hold it up, while you unscrew the tailcap. Gently lower the clip back down when done.

Works everytime. Even though the E1B works like a standard E-series Surefire, (unscrew the head to swap out the cells) every now & then you'll want to unscrew the tailcap to clean the dust off that gets in every light used as an EDC.

hi.. its a good buy..

just some defect issue I have personally experience.

well, u are right, the clip and the tailcap is pressing hard on the tailcap. this will definitely caused a mark on the tailcap. Those early version of backup does not have the clip pressing the tailcap. My backup arrived with all the markings on the tailcap. But since u reload the battery thru the head shouldnt cause much an issue.

The window, its sort of coated in some way. I remember one day, i was cleaning the window, the coating came off like a tiny spot . so try not to get ur window dirty till u have to wipe it.

That is a great looking light! I like the size too. I think it looks fantastic in silver too. :D

Thank you for sharing the pics, the silver really makes the E1B pop out at you. I wouldn't mind picking up a black one + Z68 in the near future...

Sexy pics!

Sometimes, and not just on your pics, it almost looks white. Is that an illusion or does it leave a "white" impression? I'd need to buy one then ... :D

Is it true that SF have changed the UI to come on low first then high?
Taken from SF's site.
New silver-finish E1B Backup is now available for those who prefer reversed (low-to-high output) switching.

Thanks a lot for the pics.

These are the first 'real' photos (i.e. not the shots from SF's website) I've seen of the silver E1B. It was hard for me to get an accurate idea of what the silver color looked like.

Looking at these pics, the silver seems like 'natural' colored HA that is very light and uniform in color. It looks pretty damn good, IMO.

As for the light getting warm/hot with use, that's good. It indicates there's a good thermal path between the emitter and the body.
