How did you put your E01 on a chain/string for neckwear? I just got an E01, and I've been thinking of how to do it, without using the split ring, or anything that will marr the anodizing easily.

I'd like some suggestions on possible ideas to go about doing it. I don't want to use plain string, because it looks... well... plain.

Thanks,
Brian

Get a couple of lanyard connectors from lighthound & make your own.
You will have to use something like a dental pic or sharp round bamboo toothpick to get the end of the lanyard through the hole.
I've done it with Qmini's & ITP A3's & other small lights.

Works great.

I can post a pic for you tomorrow.

Surefire Z60. Fenix Anodize is pretty tough and thick. My E0 never got scratched from carrying this way. I use the included split rings with each light.

I'd be nervous to neck carry, it seem dangerous?

You can use those bobbly metal chains that break before they can choke you, or just have something somewhere that will give way. I wouldn't wear anything round my neck strong enough to hang/choke me.

Gee whiz, the E01 is a user not a high dollar shelf Queen. At 12.50 I don't care if it gets scratched up. I use the neck chain from Lighthound.

When I wear it, my E01 simply hangs from its split ring on a stainless dog tag chain under my shirt. Stealthy, easy breakaway (so no hanging :green: ) and no scratches (yet).

Paracord will hang you too!:green::sick2::faint::mecry::shakehead:(:duh2::eek:oo::eek::ohgeez::crazy:
I bought some of those break away links from Lighthound but I was not happy with them. They break away way too easy.I want something that takes something like 40 pounds to break... not 2.
40 pounds could still garotte me... but I think I can break it before that happens. Just paracord hung on something like a tree limb... maybe not!

Well, I made a neck lanyard out of 550 paracord for my badge at work. Did a short run of some braiding near the badge and cut the two loose ends to approximately a foot or so in length. I passed the loose ends through a wooden bead and melted each end separately so the ends would offer SLIGHT resistance in pulling out of the bead. I tested it and the ends do indeed pull out easily enough that I am positive I could break free of it if necessary, though it is snug enough that I can't inadvertently lose the badge ($30 replacement fee. :faint:)

I forgot that the E01 has HAIII anodizing. I'm used to all the other "lights" that have Type I or II anodizing, and it wears off extremely fast (well, it does when I use it).

I guess I'll stick with the E01's split ring, and just make a necklace to put through it.

Thanks for the pics, and ideas, guys.

Kramer, I'd be careful with those green Sony 18650/17670's. I've had a few that came close to venting for no real reason. Less than a 500 mA load, and they were getting HOT. I got rid of all the ones that had the same batch number, and any others with the same label.

How about using paracord to hang it? It can be found in different colors and thicknesses.

Geoff

I considered 550/paracord, but its WAY too strong. I don't want to risk harming/killing myself with a necklace. I considered some of the Kevlar string I have, but that stuff is rediculously strong!

I think I'm just going to make a micromaille chainmaille necklace. If it breaks, I can just make a new one, or fix the broken necklace.

Here is some light paracord held linked by a ti bead that I can use with a variety of lights:

Most of the AAA lights & Qmini series need lanyard connectors.
The holes are pretty thin on some of these lights & the fishing line used in the connectors means no wear on the holes & you don't need to worry about the thin wire split rings (about all that can be used sometimes) failing.

I like the clips on the light lanyards for clipping the light to the roof of a tent for reading or when you want to clip to a belt loop or pack.

Around the neck they are as critical as good mustard for making a sandwich @ 1:30 in the morning.

The McGizmo clips & Fenix lobster claws work excellent as do the Nite Eyes mini carabiners. Also handy to hang on jacket zipper pulls if needed.

Different light but I use a Motherducker lanyard...no split ring.

Excuse the terrible picture effect, my editor ate it for lunch.

I have a Photon Fanatic La Petite Killer, and for now, I have been using a Surefire lanyard.

I like the Surefire lanyard, but I can make them myself with all the lanyard accessories you can get.

What I really want is something more like jewelry-like, I a have even thought about a ball chain in Titanium, or if you guy's have ideas, I would like to hear them.

I may get wide lanyard for my titan, for working with it, but my press credentials and that lanyard will beat up anything.

I did like what I saw here.

Best,

RL

I am working on uploading my lanyard to my computer, then photobucket. When I upload it, I'll add the pics to this post.

Edit: Here's the links (pics are massive)

Can't get much better quality from my phone, sorry.

Here's a few more:
Jetbeam TC-R3 & ITP A3 with neck lanyards

p1010722s.jpg

Size difference between the two always gives a chuckle. The little ITP weighs nothing around the neck. Can't say the same for the Jetbeam.

Next is a ti family shot:

The lanyard on the ti Olight is standard Olight with a Going Gear CR123 battery/pill container clipped to it, with a 4Seven's sheath. I keep a red filter or diffuser attached to the Infinitum lanyard (keeps me from losing them). I really like this setup for camping & hiking.

The Nitecore headband is pretty handy too for the lights I usually have on neck lanyards & works great (except for the tiny ITP & TC-R3).

Bonus shot of the backyard:

I like that...is that a Persian weeve, and what size rings do you use?:)

Thats Byzantine, with 2 connectors. Wire size is 0.020" (24 gauge), 1/16" inside diameter stainless steel. I've made JPL out of that size, as well, but I need a 1/16" mandrel that is about 0.002" or 0.003" smaller in diameter, to get the JPL to fully lock.

Biggest I've worked with so far is 12g 1/2" stainless steel. THAT is a nightmare, but not as much of a nightmare as 14g 1/4" Titanium. About 1 in every 5 rings in 14g 1/4" Titanium will snap, for no reason, other than that it's because it's so dang hard.

Chauncey Gardner,

You have a beautiful view in your backyard.
