Pardon me if I've missed something in searching this topic. If I have please post a link.
I've got a Tri-Star Phazer, a 3D Blaster, FT-3C, and XM-3. I'm interested in trying my hand at modding them or some of them.
Like probably everyone else I'd like to put Cree LEDs in them. Anyone tried this?
Will Crees fit the same footprints on the boards in these?
Will Crees fit the optics?
I believe the XM-3 is the only one with a regulator. Any suggestions on changing that or what I should swap it out for?
On the three unregulated lights, can I just swap out the LED and adjust the resistor for the current level I want?
BTW To clarify my experience I am a beginner at modding flashlights, but I make my living designing electronics so I know at least a little and I've had a soldering iron in my hand once or twice. I have some experience with switching power supplies but all of the LED circuits I've designed were for indicators on circuit boards so they were all simple voltage/LED/resistor circuits.
Any help is appreciated.
