Hi everyone,
I have never modded a light before and do not have professional tools to do that as well. So the modding I would like to do is more of like getting a LED to replace the incan bulb that I have.

OK now, I actually have 2 krypton energizer incan lights (that use 4 x AAs) that look like this:

and their bulbs are like this:

Because runtimes on these bulbs were quite short and i heard that using LEDs were more efficient on the batts, I would like to mod them to using LEDs. I had search through KD and DX but either I had no idea which to use or I could not find 1 suitable replacement. Can any gurus here enlighten me? Thanks :D

The bulbs your after are of 'PR' type with 1.5*4 so 6 volts...

A company called led-replacement sell PR types, perhaps the PR10.

Get a Terralux LED drop-in. It will be brighter and runtime will be far longer than the krypton bulbs.

hi fusion, thanks for the suggestions. is this 50lumen bulb already brighter than the krypton bulb? and saves on batts as much as 6 times as claimed? will the throw of the light after putting in this bulb be decreased or increased?

For more grunt get a TLE-6EX:devil:

will running on this bulb produce maybe 1/3 runtime from the batts as compared to the above (140lumens and 50lumens above)?

The krypton bulb MAY be brighter than the LED for the first 5mins, then it will sag below initial brightness and keep getting dimmer constantly. The 1watt LED will remain bright for much longer. I've not used the 1watt LED, but I do have the TLE-6EX in my 3D Mag and it runs for hours on alkalines with an output of about 60 torch lumens. As for the throw, I cannot say for sure, is the focus in your light adjustable from spot to flood?

If you are using 4AA alkalines, I'd recommend only using the 1watt LED. If you want something brighter, it maybe worth while getting a proper LED flashlight with a CREE Q2 or Q5 in it, there's plenty of pretty good lights at DX and KD for $25 shipped, which is around the price of the TLE-6EX but would kill it for output!

The TerraLux "TLE" series drop-ins for maglites will NOT WORK in other flashlights with regular PR base bulbs, they screw onto the the mags bulb retaining threaded thingamabobber doohiky thingamajig....

pick from one of the drop-ins with a standard PR based advertised as being compatible with PR base flashlights in general (not just maglites)... That link that Gunner12 posted is probably the best recourse for such a task....!!

I agree with Fusion though, for the price of most LED_drop-ins, you could probably get a decent LED light that has proper heat-sinking for the LED and works better and is more compact/efficient etc etc.

Actually I have in my collection a LF2X and Wee, and a D10 on its way. I don't think I will actually use the energizer incan lights, but just feel it is a waste to leave them as they are because I know I won't switch back to them probably even if I go camping unless for their throws. But the runtimes are horrible.

But I think the main reason is because I don't want to waste them. Should I just keep them as "collector's items" or replace their bulbs even though I may never use them?

if you like the performance of them in the throw department, but just don't like the runtime, you might just try some LSD NIMH cells in em with a 4 cell mag xenonstar bulb or HP50 (I think?) from radioshack in it.

I use these bulbs in a PrinctonTec 40 and can't complain, on eneloops you get well over 2 hours of decent output.

where can i get these xenonstar bulbs other than radioshack? I dont live in the america, so dont have access to these stores. thanks. btw, are these bulbs more enery efficient than the original krypton bulbs?

What difference is Xenon bulb from krypton bulb? Can anyone here enlighten me? Can anyone help me buy and ship the terralux bulb to me? It doesn't ship to my country:mecry:
