Hello everyone,

New member here. I require your assistance please with a compact HID (With good throw) for deployment to the sandbox.
Requirements are for the unit to preferably be LED/CR123 however am open to recommendations (Must be CR123 enabled unit).

Thus far it appears that my options are very limited based on the research I've done on this forum and I may have to do with EZNITE JX 101.
I need the unit to be compact enough to fit in my flight suite pocket due to space constraints aboard an AH-1W, not to mention the MP5 and 9mm sidearm plus mags that I have to take along on each dust off.

Any assistance would be much appreciated as well as which source may be the most reliable/secure to purchase the light from. For instance is Litemania good to go for purchase of the EZNITE unit?

Thank you kindly and God speed...

you are definitely in the right place. :welcome: in just a few hours i can pretty much guarantee a response.

Gents,

Will I require the reflector along with the bulb in the event the bulb requires replacement?
Also, is replacing the bulb in this unit possible without going through a complicated process?

Thank you

I think that you'll have to ask them or people who own the light. I think you just have to replace the bulb though.

Remember that HIDs have a start up time and many don't get up to full brightness for a few seconds.

The Eznite should be a good choice.

Replacing the lamp is not difficult on this light. I had posession of one of the earlier serial # EZNites earlier this year. The head unscrews and you can pluck the lamp straight out of the socket (it's friction fit).

The friction fit can pose a problem in shipping too, where the lamp slightly dislodges from the socket and the high-voltage leads can touch the reflector. If this happens, the light won't light, and you may get a high-voltage hit if you try to turn it on in this condition. It shouldn't be harmful though. This problem may have been fixed on later lights.

One thing. On the model I had, the lamp was a Welch Allyn 10W HID that had the outer quartz glass envelope removed. Replacement lamps will still have the envelope intact, and this will not fit through the hole in the reflector. So either your newer model will have to have a larger hole in the reflector (about 0.300"), or you will need to figure out how to remove the envelope from the replacement lamp.

Personally for a hard-use light I would like to see the lamp's outer envelop intact. You'll lose some output but gain some reliability/ease of service.

Scott,

Outstanding! Thank you...

I would not recommend a 10w HID for your application. The 10W solarc HID system is great but not shock resistant enough for your application in my opionion. I would pick up a Tiablo A9 LED light. Built nicely and is a thrower. They can be had for $60 now from

Mac,

You are on point! I stopped by Lighthound's shop in Pearland and picked up a Tiablo A9 smooth reflector as well as 2 X NovaTac 120P.
Will leave the EZNITE at home to play with prior and pursuant to deployment.

Thank you ever so kindly for the assistance gents and God speed...
