Need to remove fine scratches on optic

My Cree'd Arc First Run uses a Cree plastic optic without a window for protection from the elements and scratches. The outer top surface of the optic has many small fine scratches? Can these be polished out, and if so, what would I use to do that? Thanks,

Absolutely. You can repolish acrylic optics with toothpaste, or any other fine polishing compound (I prefer Flitz).

Just rub gently (in circular motions) against a soft cloth. It'll take a while, but it can be done.

*Do not* polish the sides of the optic!! Not that it's ever happened to me... but you'll ruin the optical properties of the optic.

After you're done, give the optic a quick dunk in warm soapy water to remove excess gunk, and let air dry before reinstalling.

Thanks Migs. I have some Flitz somewhere. Yeah, packed away in the garage. I will try toothpaste, but yuk!!!

Toothpaste may be too course.

I would recommend Buehler Micropolish II (0.3µm Alumina)

Make up a slurry and polish with light circular motion using a Q-Tip.

I have used this with some success on the plastic on my iPOD, mobile phone etc.

I restored a horribly scratched CD to usability with it.

Cornstarch with enough water to make a slurry will work. You apply it with your fingers instead of a cloth or sponge.

SemiChrome polish works well (also great for watch crystals). Maas also.
