I guess most people don't realize that the wonderous noise is a deliberate tuning of the exhaust. It does not have to sound like that. An atrificial arrangement of resonators give it that sound.

A properly designed custom exhaust system will yeild a 5-15% increase in HP, particularly when combined with increasing aspiration

Ahhhh a lovely sound.

I like the lovely sound (silence) that my Prius makes when it is running on electric power.
I'd have an electric car by now if they made one that could climb mountains.
(I know GM used to make one, but when you could get it I couldn't afford it,
and as soon as I could, they sent them all to the crusher)
