Ever since I found CPF my flashlight collection has suddenly grown exponentially.
I wish I had found this site back when I was in the US Navy. Back then I worked on Hover Crafts capable of carrying a tank. Many times I spent hours underneath the craft, were many times light was not available. One of my coworkers had a flimsy mini mag look alike that we often used.
My current flashaholism had been in the making for some time but really accelerated a few months ago.
I currently work as an electronics tech and electrician at a big hospital in Southern California. Not too long ago we had an alarm alerting us that our firefighting water main was leaking. I went to look for it with the assistance of two security guards. It was dark outside and the leak was somewhere near a parking structure. I did not have a flashlight with me but both security guards did. Unfortunately one had an incandescent mini mag and the other had some cheap five LED light that barely lit up a few feet forward.
Right there I realized that I desperately needed a good compact flashlight. I started looking in ebay and eventually found a luxeon flashlight that seemed to fit my needs. The light was bright but the runtime was pretty low. I needed a compact flashlight with different brightness levels. Back then I was not sure if something like that existed so I started searching.
Eventually my search brought me to CPF and I was amazed at all the different flashlights.
After reading a lot about different flashlights I eventually settled on a Fenix L2D. The Fenix is simply amazing. Its way brighter then the big old flashlights we use at the hospital and the adjustable brightness levels are exactly what I needed. Now I use the turbo mode when working in the ceiling or when I'm outside looking for something. The other lower levels are used for everything else, especially when I don't want to be blinded by the reflection of the turbo mode.
My wife loves my Fenix so I'm getting another L2D for her. My mother in law calls it the big flashlight because of the output.
I currently have a nuwai X3 (cabelas branded), a victorinox (very nice looking flashlight) a few others that are on the way.
Well I'm going to stop this right here before I put anyone to sleep. All of a sudden I have found new reasons to walk the dog at night.
