I have a SF C3 I'm planning on upgrading to an 18mm tube. This will accept 2x18500's, but with an extension (Oveready) would accomodate 2x18650's. Would it be worth the extra expense for the 18650 upgrade or not. In otherwords, would it gain me a proportionate amount of run time or extra amount of juice for my XP-G R5 dropin (optimum drive factor) to rationalize the extra cost. Thanks in advance: Bill in Texas:sssh:

Depends on the drop in in question, but in most cases, there will be little to no difference in output. The difference/value will be runtime. With a C3, you'll also be changing the distance between the switch and grip ring.

Not too hard to figure out, suppose the C3 with the XPG draws 1200ma with the 18500. It would likewise also draw about the same current with the 18650 therefore if the 18500 is 1800mah cell we divide the 1800 by 1200mA and get 1800mah/1200ma=1.5hour runtime on 18500

Lets say you buy 2500mah 18650
2500mah/1200ma=2.08hours on 18650 a gain of 30minutes or .5hour
Is it worth it to you ?? your choice
Just put in actual values for your cells I just guessed for the mah on 18500.

or you can do a porportion if you don't know the current draw and you know how long the light runs on the 18500
1800mah/1.5h=2500mah/x solving for x we get x=(2500mah)(1.5h/1800mah)

additionally you now know the current draw at the batteries it is 1800mah/1.5h=1200ma this would be an approximate current draw. A light would more than likely draw more than this current initially on a fully charged cell and then less as the voltage of the cell dropped, so this would be an average value, but for figuring runtime these numbers won't be far off.

Thanks for both of your insights... I think I'll stick with the 18500's after absorbing your inputs. Like EG noted, if I went with the extension, the finger grip ring would be too far out front. It worked fine with primaries, but I just got tired of buying batteries. My C3 body should be in EGs' hands about now(batch I). Thanks again: Bill in Texas

Thanks to both for inputs. Beleive I'll stick with the 18500s for grip ring issues. C3 should be in EGs' hands now for "batch I" bore job. Thanks again: Bill in Texas.
