Not seen these mentioned on here so thought I'd ask. On eBay UK I found some very useful PR bulbs - 9V, 0.7A Krypton - perfect for 8xAA NiMh builds. When I got them it said bulbs for Edison 040 torch...
Hmm, not heard of that but the same seller is selling these torches new too. Aluminium black anodized, focusing, o-rings and look good. Price? £15 including postage. And I got it lower than that as it is also 'make an offer.

Item description is "Edison Aluminium Torch Requires (7xC Batteries)" so just waiting on that, but I'm excited. Never owned a 7C Mag, and this looks almost identical in form. Plus it's got the Krypton bulb the Mag 7C should have had.
Concerning the bulbs, I never believed a new lamp that I really wanted for my projects would ever see the light of day but I will be stocking up on them. They make for a fat bright beam, so much nicer than the 9.6V bulbs out there and brighter than the 7.2 6D Mag bulbs. Search "Edison Krypton Bulb 9.0V/0.75A For 040 Torch (PK-2)".

I'll review the torch when I get it but anyone here already received one? What are they like?

It's made my new year! A newly launched 7 cell incandescent plus new bulbs :)

Those sound pretty cool! I looked on this side of the pond for them, no luck yet. Looking forward to your findings! 👍

I bought one and 4 bulbs as well several months ago. Quite cheaply constructed. The head has a plastic hood over it and the bezel which is fixed is just crimped over the lens.

Original poster here. Got locked out of my account so new name. I can confirm tbe light (now out of stock) was poor. 2 out of 10 tops. Everything cheap.

But...

The bulbs are seemingly a bespoke run, 9V 0.75A Krypton still available from Zoro UK (online retailer).

I really like them, they are good quality and at currently £2.29 for a pack of 2 they are good value. I use one in an Ever Ready Space Ray and the beam is one tight clean spear of light. Also in a Maglite they work well too.

Nice to see you still around too! I'll be posting a few of my finds here on the 'warm incan' section.

I could ask for a name change but I sold my keyboard so I don't mind 😉

Lowglow works too.

I was honestly a bit disappointed by this light. The non-replaceable plastic lens was snapped into place which also holds the reflector. The lens was a unabashed lumen theif plus it was clamping the reflector a bit crooked so I couldn't ever get it to focus. But this past weekend past I was determined to improve the Edison 7C. Here it is next to a 2D Mag.

I managed to dig out the old lens, then using a couple of dots of glue perfectly centered the reflector with good quality AR lens in front. Then JB Weld the whole assembly into place and clamp until set. Once dry I replaced the rubber protective boot.

The beam was definitely improved. I couldn't focus it at all before. Now I can. Here it is on a woodland trail. The hot-spot is quite fat with bright spill. It reaches out to around 100 yards. It's actually a useful outdoor light now because as the spill is bright I can see the whole area in front of me lit evenly. I'm using rechargeable batteries.

Whilst it's absolutely not the best light I have it surprised me how it was improved by sorting the reflector and getting rid of the plastic lens. With around 6.75 Watts of output it's up there with the large Maglites. The 7C seems to be discontinued but the 5C is still available at a few online retailers. I wouldn't recommend it unless you feel like sorting the lens/reflector issue.⚠️

Hi,

Are you saying these are incandescent bulb flashlights? Who likes those type now that LEDs have come onto the scene. Maybe you like collecting the vintage flashlights?

I needed flashlights for a long time but I hated the incandescent bulb ones because of the nasty, yucky, totally unnatural color and also the nasty, nasty lighting pattern. LEDs improved on that by miles and miles.
I can understand collecting the vintage lights though.

Well they were new in 2020 - but looks to be a fairly short run as the 7C is now discontinued.

I'm in the UK and certain people here still value an incandescent light. I supplied old stock replacement bulbs earlier this year and auto mechanics especially were buying them.
I have LED but still value incandescent for certain tasks.

I do... still carry a Streamlight Scorpion as a back up light, the colour rendition is superior to all LED lights I have tried despite advancements in LED CRI technology.

Each to their own 👍

Exactly. I too always have an incandescent nearby ready to go. Despite huge advances, something is still missing with LED that for my work makes a difference. That last bit of CRI maybe or the fact that the filament is a point light source which gives better definition of space and position of what it's illuminating.

Hi,

Wow that's interesting. I've never seen an incan with color rendition nearly as good as some of the LED lights I have. The reason being is that the LED lights have nearly pure white light.
For two examples, resistor color codes and the color of meat that is cooked in say a microwave oven. The resistor color codes are especially good with an LED light, as long as the LED light has the nearly white color not that bluest tint junk.
For a bad example, some resistor color codes have the color orange almost the same as the color red. That makes it very hard to distinguish red from orange, which is 2 for red and 3 for orange. So is it 22k or 33k. Very hard to figure out with an incandescent, much easier with the right LED light.

It could be what you have been looking at does not require very accurate color rendition. This may only be apparent when you have items that have colors that are almost the same (like the red and orange above) because you can tell the difference between blue and red without much difficulty. This would happen if you don't have objects that need very careful color analysis.
It can also be because of the way the mind can fill in blanks. If you have items that you are very familiar with you don't need a good light to tell what color they are because you already know from viewing under other types of light. For example, if I marked all the 22k and 33k with their values or placed them in separate bins, I would not need a very good light to tell which ones are which, I could use almost any light source.
