Was up till 4 am reading the forum today....so didnt get much sleep before work.
Then during the day at work bought a Fenix TK12 R5 with the AM 2900 mah 18650 and a Fenix LD10 R4 from 4Sevens....while working.
Now its about 11pm and just ordered a iTP A3 EOS black with the L-M-H sequence from going gear.
I have enjoyed all the readings, esp the reviews that blow away to dust the useless advertizing that most manuf do. Will mostly use these lights for hunting.
Thanks for a wonderful day. I am tired....Goodnight.

Regards.
PS. These are my first real lights....aside from my old Strion.
PSS. See update/Q below please.

welcome, congrats, goodnight

haven't had any of those lights, but good choices(for you first "real lights", and overall)

had the LD10, but it was the Q5 version.--good light, actually that was one of my first "real lights" also.

Sounds like you've gotten your new addiction off to a good start.

Wow! That's a hell of a first day!!!

Welcome to the addiction

Let us know what you think of the lights once you get a chance to try them out.

Welcome to CPF!

I love the Fenix TK40. Feed it Sanyo Eneloop rechargeable NiMHs and let it rip.

Everybody needs that wicked sick bump-in-the-night light. The TK40 will assuredly blind anybody on the receiving end; in fact it is so bright the splashback from the light at short range will occasionally blind me (even while I'm holding it!)

Word to the wise: don't order another light while you already have a couple in the mail. I'm dead serious... wait until they show up first. Then take them out and play with them, use them in actual conditions (take a long walk after nightfall) and then make your next purchase. This gives you a chance to learn what features you like in the light, and which you hate. Like the UI? Get the same UI on your next one. Hate the crenelated bezel? Make sure the next one is smooth. Like throwy lights? Don't buy one with a floody LED/reflector.

I was burning through purchases at a furious rate originally - buying each new thing as it came out and constantly going to the mailbox to pick them up. Eventually I stopped doing this and now I only order a new light once the last one arrives. It not only allows more expensive purchases (because they're less frequent) but what arrives will have more features that you know you're going to love.

But enough coaching! My recommendation? Three lights:

a) Primary light: this is what you reach for when you know you're going walking and it's going to get dark. It's bigger, it's brighter and it runs on more batteries.
b) Secondary light: this one gets clipped to your pocket every day when you get out of bed. Something smaller, preferably 1 cell, with a decent output and good runtime.
c) Backup light: this one HAS to work. The mantra around CPF is "two is one, one is none". This one is small, runs on a common battery like AAA and is durable/reliable.

For me, right now these lights are:
a) Primary: Surefire 6P /w clicky tailcap. Nailbender SST-90 drop-in. Hilariously bright floodlight with a short runtime. The 6P host allows me to upgrade the LED at any time while keeping the same familiar body.
b) Secondary: HDS Clicky 170T
c) Backup: 4sevens Stainless Steel Preon Revo in Neutral White

Careful. The first taste of real good lights will mean you'll end up buying more and more. It's kinda like drugs...your first taste of it and you'll be hooked onto them.

I told myself that the U2 will be my last light and now, I got 5 more lights in the past 3 months.

Nonetheless, welcome to CPF, grats on the awesome lights and good night.

Re: Newb here...Its been a long first day on CPF!!

Just ordered Duracell precharged rechargeable 8 AAs 4 AAA and the Duracell recharger.....this will join the 18650 2900 mah with charger from 4Sevens.
So now we have some energy coming for the flashlights.

I appreciate the advise on waiting to try out the flashlights before buying new ones, that really is sound advise. I am a long term member on some other forums and the classic mistake is to overspend, buy buy with little knowledge...then finally realize what you bought doesnt suit your needs.
Will use the 3 lights on the 4 day hunting trip planned for Oct 28+, it should be a bright trip...

Regards.

Couple of recommendations of my own

  1. Check out CPF Market Place - requires different membership signup (think most people use the same name) - folks selling lights & parts - good deals usually - and if you want to turn it around you don't lose much.
  2. Check out the "stickies" - there is a sticky that gives the specials that dealers give to CPF members
  3. IF YOU DARE - go to the custom B/S/T on CPF. That is where the cutting edge stuff is. Just hold onto your wallet. (for example)I've spent a pile on custom coatings - why? Good question.
  4. ENJOY - it's the best "community" I've found on the web, good moderators, excellent members, very little "trolling".

Too late for the hide your wallet line, you've already been infected!!!
Wait for your lights to get in before you make another big purchase. If you have to order another light, You've got to have a small back-up on your keychain and you can't go wrong with a Fenix E01 and it's only $10-$15!!
You can also find some reviews on youtube. goinggear has some reviews there and I'm not sure who else.

Hummm.....gifted a iTP A3 EOS to my dad and ordered a Nano for him and me. Oh and another iTP A3 EOS for me.
Also ordered a Jetbeam Jet III M R5......what do you think? I want a pocket thrower and it seems to have a little more oomph than my Fenix TK12 R5...or not?
Oh, and got a Stanley HID from Walmart.....talk about LIGHT!!!!:faint:

Regards.
PS. Thanks in advance for your help....being a newb is fun and educational!

WHOA!
Take it easy.

Buy 1 light.
Wait for it to arrive.
Play with it for a week, find out what you like or do not like.
Do not buy another light until you know what you like/dislike. Especially DISLIKE.

If you do not spread out your purchases :broke:
