Hi, everyone.

While I'm new to the CPF, I've got a fairly extensive collection. Multiple Stinger, Stinger HP, Ultra Stingers, a few Streamlight Survivor LED units, and quite a few Mini-Mags with TerraLUX upgrades, TerraLUX UV LED's and even a few TerraLUX-built LED flashlights, with the new 220 lumen rating. Numerous MAG products, some I probably can't even remember.

The 'sickness' is not new to me.

However, I have a couple of questions:

I have a Streamlight Ultra Stinger that's like new, but I'd like to upgrade it to LED. Anyone have any ideas? I've used the TerraLUX HP3 upgrade, but it's really no brighter than my Stinger HP's with the same element, and I was warned that the HP3 probably wouldn't last long. Apparently the 3x220 lumen upgrade is still off in the future.

I also have a MAG 2D that is the one light that started it all about 25 years ago for me, and while it has the MAG LED, it's certainly the low man on the totem pole around here. I tried the TerraLUX LED upgrade, but for some reason (perhaps someone can answer) it didn't work at all. I swapped it to another 2D, and it worked very well, but I can only seem to get the MAG LED to actually function in mine.

I've seen the 1D modifications, and they are sweet. Does anyhone know who can mod my 2D for similarly high LED output? Bear in mind, while I do know how to operate a soldering iron, I'm a turbocharger technician by trade, so electronic work is not my best forte.

I realize I'm probably not the first to ask these questions, and I did at least spend some time smurfing around in past forums to see if I could find anything, but I'm either too dense to locate anything, or there's just no interest in these projects.

Thanks in advance!

Streamlight Ultra Stinger. I have no doubt that if you are willing to pay, a modder can probably make the light into a 500+ lumen LED light. But I'm not sure what the price will be. I don't remember of any 100+ lumen drop-ins for the Ultra Stinger.

I don't know why the drop-ins doesn't work. Maybe it has to do with old vs newer models of Maglite. Does it have a "D" infront of the serial number?

Check this thread for Maglite drop-ins and Mods. Check the Malkoff drop-ins.

:welcome:

It's an older Mag, and does not begin with the 'D'.

Perhaps that is the issue; the fellow I gave the TerraLUX LED to used it in his, and it works really well. I think his was newer. He's still grateful.

I'll have a look at his tomorrow and see if that's the thing.

Thanks for the tip on the Ultra Stinger. It's a fantastic light, if perhaps a bit bulky. I keep a Stinger HP on either side of the front seats of my Suburban, in chargers, but he Ultra is so long, that when it sits in the charger in a horizontal position, gravity pulls it out of contact.

So it sits, lonely, in the charger, in the garage, in a vertical position....

I'm not really familiar with the old Mags, but you should be able to put a 6AA > 2D adapter, metal reflector, and glass lens in it and run a ROP low lamp in it. That will get it up to a few hundred incandescent lumens.

Maybe one of the more experienced users can verify that.
