I had to dress up for a wedding the other day and had a hard time finding a torch to fit into my attire. I ended up "borrowing" my Streamlight Microstream back from my GF and was again struck by what a nice torch this really is! With it's all black body and clip it blends in really well with dress slacks and can fill most of the roles that may be asked of an EDC. We carry ours with a lithium batt and it is so light/compact that you really don't notice it at all, especially with it's superb pocket clip. Combine that with it's beautiful beam (tight, throwy hotspot and smooth, bright spill), the great tint, excellent output (20+ lumens) and nearly 5 hours regulated runtime on a lithium and this is my go-to light for minimalist carry or for covert/dress occasions.

I just don't hear much anymore about this fine light and wonder why? For $15 it did pretty well in Crenshaw's AAA shootout: http://www.candlepowerforums.com/vb/showthread.php?t=197358
For anyone looking for a bright, long-running, inexpensive, lightweight, compact, forward-clicky, single-level carry light you really cannot go wrong with the Microstream!

EDIT: with a tight hotspot 20 lumens is brighter than it sounds. you owe it to yourself to check one of these out!

throw a Fenix L0D CE head on it and its even better!

LOL, funny you should say that because that's the reason I bought the MS in the 1st place! I ended up being so impressed with the stock MS that I kept it as-is tho. It is brighter with better batt life than the LOD on medium and it throws as far as the LOD on high. For a single-level pocket torch it's a perfect combination of output level and beam pattern IMO.

LOL...... what's funny is that when I saw the title of this thread I thought you might be wanting a recommendation for a nice low-profile/dress carry light, and I was going to recommend the Microstream, ha.

Mine is with me EVERY night in my black suit. I especially like the momentary action of the clicky with just the right amount of tension.

And you are right, the tint and profile of the beam is superb also..... coming close to matching my NovaTac 120P (my main EDC).

I'm glad to see somebody else likes this little gem.

:D:thumbsup: The only bummer is that I gave mine to my GF and only got to borrow it, now I'll have to go order a new one for myself because she wants hers back!
I still am surprised tho that folks choose some of the DX AAA's over the MS.

Haha...I bought one of these but gave it to my girlfriend as well. Maybe I should have given her the Stylus Pro I carry in my suit so I could have kept it...the stylus is a bit too long to be comfortable.

I just can't count the times I've needed flashlights at weddings. Other essential wedding gear includes a torque wrench, jackhammer, and altimeter.

Actually, I have one of each that I have used as my EDC, and really can't tell that much difference. I usually carry in my shirt pocket along with one of my carefully selected pens [I am such a geek! - but no pocket protector!] and pretty much ignore it. Yes, the Stylus Pro is a little longer and a little heavier, but it is still no longer than the pen it rides beside, and not much larger around either.

And, yes, I also agree they are both sexy looking and just all around nice to use.

You're making fun of a flashlight enthusiast for carrying a flashlight, on a forum that is dedicated to flashlight enthusiasts?

You sound just like the people who ask "Why are you carrying a flashlight in your pocket? It's the daytime!"

BTW, I should add that my current dress light is my NiteCore D10 with a pocket clip that I salvaged off of another AA light I had around.

It's slim, small, and simple in appearance, so it doesn't look out of place with dress clothes.

The light that immediately comes to my mind is the Proton Pro. It's size and pocket clip make it very usable in a dressy situation. Also, its ability to ramp down the brightness or use the red LED make it very versatile for those times (restaurants, theaters) when only a wee bit of light is needed.

Did someone hit a weak spot :D ? I'd like to note, that i am a flashlight-enthusiast (spent thousands over the last few years) but no flashlight-geek ("i always have 20 flashlights on me because ...")

i bought 2 of them and both have the LOD CE Q4 head with a 10440 batt in them, also 3 STYLUS PRO's equiped the same way except for the 10440's.

What clip did you use? I'd LOVE a good clip for my D10 but all I've seen are some custom clips on the forums and I don't have access to a machine shop...............:broke:
TIA!

Hmm... nope: no weak spot. Maybe my tone sounded upset, but I assure you it was not.
I don't carry 20 flashlights either. I always have one good flashlight, and one cheap fauxton.

The daylight doesn't always penetrate every crack and crevice, nor can it go through many solid materials found in buildings. Indoor lighting also fails to shine through everything. Nor do weddings magically give off illumination to all surrounding areas, peeling back shadows. On top of all of that, many wedding receptions are in the evening. There are hundreds of reasons why someone might need a little light in any regular daily activity.

I don't see why your comment about 20 lights applies: the OP wasn't asking about dozens of backup lights that would fit in a suit. The discussion was a single light that worked well in dress attire.

Making fun of someone for carrying a single light to a wedding (especially on CPF) just seems silly to me. Might as well go over to Glocktalk and make fun of people for carrying guns, and while you're at it go over to Bladeforums and make fun of people for carrying knives.

The analogies were equally silly: jackhammer?
If someone drops a piece of jewelry or a cufflink and it goes rolling under a table or piece of furniture during the reception, a small light could make finding it a lot easier. I don't think that's too unrealistic of a scenario, and I'm sure you could think of some other realistic scenarios.

Thanks for clearing that up, I've devoted alot of time to pondering that question about you....................
Jeez, am I in the right forum? Two attacks because I carried a (single)torch to a wedding.............................is this the twilight zone?

I used a clip off of a 1AA Energizer light that I bought off the rack at Target. It was this one

I will try to get a photo up later so you can see how it looks. It isn't perfect, but I can't really complain for now
