Hello everyone,
I have been lurking for a little while and learning all I can... Believe it or not, my first flashlight other than my good old Maglight is a NightHunter I even got the IR filter with it which is $700... not what sure I would ever do with it though. I got it in a three way trade and it opened my eyes to HID lights and lead me here to the forums... Now I have become a closet flashaholic.
I have no reference for comparison on this light but have read the shootout and a few other posts that refer to it. It is big and heavy, but man, it is it bright! When adjusted to a pencil beam, the thing lights up the sky like an old carbon arc searchlight...
Anyways... the unit was a rep sample (I live near Xenonics in San Diego)... The battery is dead. It sat for a year discharged, and I think this pretty much killed it. The light works great plugged in, but I want mobility...
Xenonics gets about $300.00 for the gel cell battery..... So this is where I am.... In my studies of this forum, and from other experience, I would really like to change the power source for this beast. Is there any reason I couldn't use a lith-ion pack that fits in the light and produces the same voltage.... I know the draw of this light must be huge, but don't know how to compare the output of the packs to the demand of the light.... I know I would have to change the charging system or remove the pack to charge it, but does anyone have any advice? The specs on the light say 12 to 32v for input. The sla battery it uses is rated at 22vdc, 5A....
Any thoughts on this... am I just over my head here.. I was looking at something like this as a power supply.
Cheers, Lance
