NiteCore D20 problems...

I noticed that both of my NiteCore D20's will turn on if shook! One turns on if you just set it on the counter sometimes!

It would seem that the piston spring tension is to light and the weight of the batteries move when shook which in turn disconnects the power, then turns the light on when they reconnect.

Has anyone else encountered this problem?

got it so quick? I thought not yet available for a few months ...

wasn't this similar to the l5fxt(sp?) problem?

double check to make sure it isn't a "feature" in the manual:p. sorry couldn't help it

I didn't read anything stating it being "shake" activated!

Really, if you have one of these lights, try to shake it and see if it turns on. It doesn't take much on one of the lights I have.

im shaking mine like crazy. no such problem here. hmmm..... just give 4 sevens a call. you know it will be dealt with in seconds! lol

You can adjust how far you have to press the piston. Just turn the head, until it goes on or off, then turn the head back the other way a quarter turn or less.

Just shook the heck out of mine and it's not turning on. I've got Duracell rechargies in it.

:twothumbs

Mine will not turn on by shaking. And you have to drop it pretty hard on to a carpet in order to make it come on. I can bang it pretty hard onto a table or such and can't get it to light. I don't want to bang it any harder than that on a hard surface and wouldn't care if it did come on if it had to be done that hard. It will blink if you set it down to tailstand when On, but that doesn't bother me. My EX10 does this also.

No, actually, it's the exact opposite of the LF5XT bug...
The trouble is, while that one could've been (and was) fixed via software, this one can't (at least by the sound of it).

Like people above said - try untwisting it a bit. That should make the piston travel required to switch it on a bit longer.

I don't have a D20, but you guys got me curious so I tested my EX10. I bounced it up and down on my desk like a basketball, bounced it on it's head, bounced it on it's tail, smacked all over the place, and it never even blinked.
I'm guessing the tube in the D20 is longer, more massive, so more likely to move on impact.
I've cleaned the tube in my EX10 to make it operate easier, but the spring is stiff so it takes a lot of pressure to operate. Did they lighten up the spring tension in the D20?

What batteries are you using? You maybe able to stretch out the spring, but check with 4sevens first. :)

My EX10 does that so I'm not at all surprised that the D20 with its heavier batteries would. My solution is just to leave it in momentary mode when I don't want it coming on. This way if it does "bump" on it goes right back off so it's not a big deal.

Have you made sure the gap in the brass ring (in the head) is split apart?
The only issue ive read about with these lights has been fixed by spreading that gap a little wider.

Hope it helps...

I hope they resolve this issue....:sigh: I now EDC a D10 after deeming my L2DQ5 too long.

I was going to purchase the D20 until I saw the comparison picture with the L2D. - It's even longer! With no clicky, it must have a very long heat sink to make it longer than my L2DQ5.
jr/:(

I just tried both lights with lithium's, and it seemed to cure the problem. The lithium's are LIGHTER then the alkaline Duracell's and Energizer rechargeable ive tested, so the batteries do not overcome the piston spring. But I feel this light should work flawlessly with the rechargeables, or any AA 1.5v batteries for that matter, since that is one of the big reasons for the purchase.

Besides this problem, I REALLY like the D20! It's a very nice light, and would highly recommend it to anyone if it weren't for the problem I am experiencing with them. I have (3) EX10's and I really like them also.

I just e-mail 4sevens again, and waiting to see what he says.... Will keep everyone posted.

I couldn't get mine to come on by shaking it or beating it on the center console of my truck. I must have gotten a stiffer spring.
