Noob question about Flupic

Actually I'm a little ashamed to ask, but I couldn't find a clear answer.

What exactly is a Flupic? Is it a driver or is it a board that is compatible with a driver inside a flashlight but adds a bunch of output options?

I have a L2P modified with a MillerMods circuit (made for 2 NiMH cells and output of around 700 mA). Is the Flupic compatible with this?

I'm sorry again for this (probably) stupid question ;)

Cheers!

The Flupic is a stand alone buck board. The board is perfect for a single Li-Ion cell.

Simple answer an all I needed to know, thanks Mac :)

Anyone know an other way to get more output options to my L2P?

You can actually hook up a regular FluPIC board to a Fenix Lxp board - you get the FluPIC modes and are not chained that board's Vin requirements. Check out goldserve's "flupig" thread for more info on this.

Goldserve also has a "piglet" board, but I've lost track of where that project stands.

The FLuPIC adds a lot of modes like user adjustable brightness settings, strobe, etc. and it also has 1 or 2 LDO's so it acts as a Buck driver (for up to about a 5V input).

My JIL info post has some information about the FLuPIC: https://www.candlepowerforums.com/posts/1397319#post1397319

Look for any of goldserve's posts for links to his FLuPIC threads in the sigline (sorry if the links don't work after I cut and pasted them):

Yeah, I know. ;) People come up with the cleverest mods on CPF! I wish I had half their modding skills.

(FYI, it was Walt's mod/build I was referring to.)

Seems like the FluPIG is suited for my application :) I sent an e-mail to Goldserve to ask if he can make one for me. Thanks to everyone who contributed to this thread :)

I order and mod FluPICs on a regular basis from Goldserve.
These are great boards ! With newer less power-hungry leds,
DD is fine... You'll love it !

DD isn't possible with 2 NiMH's. And I'm not going the rechargeable li-ion way ;)

FYI Goldserve doesn't make the FluPig anymore...

as we are on dumb noob flupic questions ill ask some too (in order not to clutter cpf)

if used alone what is the current on the brighest option

do these work with 1 x nimh aa battery flashlights or only if i use li-ion?

basicly i want to mod a civictor ss (basicly a fenix) with a flupic and a ssc p4 led

I don`t think there is a FluPic that will work on a single NIMH. If there is I would like to know about that one myself.:grin2: I put a FluPic and a Cree XR-E in a Fenix LOP and switched to an AAA size Li-on.

It is a buck driver which means it will turn the input voltage down to a decent voltage to drive the LED. So it will only work like this : Vbatt>Vled. Since a single NiMH cell has a voltage of around 1.2V and the LED needs at least 3V it will not work with this setup.

The Flupic is a buck converter so the VF in must be greater than the VF of the LED. 5v max input. In other words 1.2v in will not work. You need at leat a single 4.2v Li-ion cell.

The Flupig works on 1 NiMH cell since it doesn't have the components which turn down the voltage. Just put it between the battery and driver. Too bad it isn't made anymore :(

EDIT : Goldserve's description at http://candlepowerforums.com/vb/showthread.php?t=113407 :)

Depending on the LDO's, current at burst could be between 1amp and 1.2 amps.
There are 2 LDO's on the board, each *capable* o delivering 600mA ea. (right ?)
I'd say with the less power-fungry emitters, this is the way to go !
I love my 3-level Arc LS3 :) https://www.candlepowerforums.com/threads/149122

p.s. the last links is for a "Piglet". A Piglet is a FluPIC with pure regulation.
Not many were sold, only for testing-purposes. So far no problems.
I think they will be released to the general public soon !

It`s nice to know what a FluPig is finally. Now that I know...... Like you said, too bad it isn`t made anymore.:(

It was beta-tested, they should come on the market, good things come to those who wait...
