 I was just wondering if anybody owns those Black n Decker "2 MCP" lights (supposedly rated at about 1400 lumens) from Lowes, and if so, are they any good? How are they at mod-potential?
If not, whats the best <$50 spotlight that can give me some modding potential?

I don't own the 2mcp from Lowe's, but I have seen it. I own the 3 million candlepower version of it, which has 2 bulbs instead of 1. It is unbelievably bright and powerful. I have heard on CPF that the 3mcp version isn't very much brighter than the 2mcp.

I am sorry, but I don't know much about modding it. I just wanted to let you know that it is most likely a great light.

Thanks Bluebeam....i'm still on the fence on whether to grab that or see if i can snatch up a good deal on one of the HID lights for cheap....it looks like the HID is the way to go...now to just find one at a store i can physically go to :ohgeez:

If you are thinking of getting a light just to mod it, I would recommend you get something with a very large reflector like the Professional's Favorite 17.5 million candlepower from Advance Auto Parts for $40 or the 15 million candlepower Thor from Pep Boys for $60. The Thor at Pep Boys gos by the "Motor Trend" label.

I have both, they are extremely bright, but the Pro's Favorite is brighter. I also have a 35 watt Power On Board HID spotlight.

IMO the Professional's Favorite 17.5 million candlepower is brighter and more powerful than the Power On Board HID.

All 3 of these spotlights are much more powerful than my 3mcp Vector.

The Thor and Pro's Favorite both have huge 9'' diameter reflectors, about twice the size of the one on that 2mcp Vector.

EDIT: In perfect focus, the Pro's Favorite looks quite a bit brighter than both the Power On Board HID and 15mcp Thor. Here is my thread about it:

ok...looked at the pro's fav at my local AAP....its big! I almost got it...i did find a POB online for the same price and decided to go with it for now..just because its smaller, better runtime, and gets my feet wet HID-wise...if i got another spare $40 one day i'll try out the pros fav...

i like your enthiasium for the cheaper stuff bluebeam...there are alot of hidden values in your collection that many people would overlook because its assumed that more money is going to get you everything you want and need in a light....but there's no WAY i'll pay $2000 for a light just to have it light up something 1/4mile away...i cant even see myself paying a small fortune for something as appealing as a Maxabeam, and that thing looks like a wicked piece of engineering!

And i mean no offense to the owners of the more expensive lights like the MB and Polarions...you do get what you pay for....and to some people, build quality, run time, durability, features, ease of use, and beam quality are much more important than just total light output or maximum throw

incan built for show, HIDs built 2 go. :twothumbs

If your ever serious about getting a pro performance light down the track. IMO the HID Xeray50w. It's just too sexy.:)

i have the black and decker 2mcp. it is not that bad at all. it puts out some serious light and will burn the crap out of you if you leave it on and touch the lens. i plan on replacing the 75w halogen bulb with either a 75w xenon or 100w halogen. :twothumbs one complaint i have about mine, is that the leds are not the same. one has more of a spot beam with a 6k temp and the other is more of a flood with a purple like tint similar to the arc AAA. one thing i found very different about this light, is that the transformer in one the INSIDE of the light. so to charge it you must connect the light itself to a extention cord to charge. very interesting indeed. i find it to be a pretty good light overall seeing as i use it the most out of a surefire 6p led and a POB. yet the POB still dominates as far as output. yet the b&d comes fairly close.

Sexy? sure....Bright? Hell yeah....affordable ATM? no...but when i graduate from my "bang for the buck" flashaholic stage to a "serious need for that kind of light at any cost" stage, i will seriously consider it...curiously resembles the MB BTW...thx flashanator!

Congratulations on getting your POB! I use mine all the time and I love it. I assure you that it will blow you away!
