Old Mag switch removal?

I just found an old Mag 3D in the garage today. It has one very old battery which is stuck. There is no "D" in front of the serial number. I would like to "try" to take out the switch and maybe remove the batt.

Q: Do the old Mags have the 5/64 set screw in them or do I just need a spanner of some type to remove the switch assy? Or, do they have both?

Q2: Will a new switch fit into an old mag?

There does not appear to be a retaining ring, just some threads.

Thanks

You will have to remove it from the top. Those two dents are to be unscrewed and the rest of the switch assembly falls down.
The new switches they are smaller in diameter . And there is no place for the C clamp to sit. This is what I remember when I saw it last.
The battery might have got corroded and got stuck to the body. You might try beating it against your car tyre to see if the battery comes free.

As I recall from my similar mag, there is still a set screw under the switch button that you must unscrew. After that, you use the two depressions on the big ring to unscrew it, and then the switch should come right out the front. The new switch won't fit, but all the electrical contacts on the old switch are easily accessible for cleaning.

Does the rubber switch cover just pull off? Also what is the name of the tool you use to unscrew the big ring with the two holes?

One more question, when did they change the serial numbers from all number to C... or D...?

1) Rubber cover pinches off
2) Maglite switch retaining ring removal tool...good luck finding one at a decent price...I've had a "WTB" posted in the MP for some time now...
3) 1999 for the "C" Mags, I believe...can't speak to the "D" Mags

Good luck!
