So, last night I started thinking about getting OLight i3 EOS, but couldn't find many comments from the people who own one.

There's mainly two things that make me cautious:
1. Are the threads tight? (any head wobble, mode skipping etc?)
2. Is the risk of getting LED with green tint big?
Twisty light with loose threads make me go :hairpull:, and the green tint is just :sick2:.

So any input on those would be greatly appreciated, but if you have any other comments (good or bad) about the light, feel free to share them. :)

I haven't got the Olight I3 but I have the ITP A3 which is almost exactly the same, (ITP is owned by Olight and the I3 is the replacement for the A3) and the tint is very good, it's not perfectly white but it's so close you can't tell unless you are comparing it to other lights. Threads are quite loose, lots of head wobble but when the heads screwed on far enough to cover the o ring it doesn't wobble very much, I've never had mode skipping. The only difference between this and the I3 is that the I3 tailstands, it's keychain atachment point is on the side instead of the end, it is longer, it's pocket clip screws on and is not reversible. It's a really good light, for the price it's unbeatable

"Are the threads tight?"
Yes, tight.
"Is the risk of getting LED with green tint big?"
I have three i3. All tint is pure white.

Perfectly centered led, smooth beam.

I have a black i3. The tint is white and the LED well centered also in my case. The threads are rather tight and there's practically no level skipping.
BTW my i2 is on the contrary quite prone to mode skipping and i1 somewhat in between.

Nothing negative so far, so I think it might be time to get one and test it myself. Thanks for the replies. :)

thanks for the pics!

im planning on getting the yellow i3 to replace my E05.
biggest reason im getting it is because hearing reports that the threads have tight tolerances. and tighter than the A3.
i have a itp A3, and the thread tolerances arent bad at all. much better than the quark minis. and my E05s.

i too, dont like thread play especially when it comes to twisties.

I have the Olight i2 and thought the threads were a little loose, but added a spring to the bottom of the battery tube (mini-mag spring) and now it has the best feel of any of my twisties. I also found the beam to be a nice tint, you dont notice the bluish tint unless you hold it up with a neutral.

I just got my i3, and it's looking good so far. :)
Beam color is clean white and threads are pretty tight. About 1/4 turn of the head is enough to make sure it wont go on when twisted/pushed.

Glad you are happy with it. I have the i2 (AA version) and I like it a lot. Threads could be tighter on mine but apart from that no complaints. I think the i series are great value for the money. I might treat myself to an i3 as well!

If I may throw in one dissenting voice...

I have an i2 with what either appears to be an offset emitter, or an offset reflector. I haven't opened the package yet (getting it resolved with the seller, in case they want it back for RTV), but the LED's noticably shifted to one side, and there's a rather large blemish on about 1/3 of the dome too =(

HOWEVER, please take this as an exception rather than the norm, every post here on cpf usually is in praise of this family of lights. Its just for information, and just to be careful and take a look at the lights before opening them up.

Oh, I thought that the black plastic thing that comes around the LED would make sure that LED is in the center of the reflector every time. :o

Picked up a puprle one yesterday at the gun show. bright little sucker. Just a hint of yellow. The pocket clip was loose so I tried to tighten it, screw holes were stripped. It's ok, going on the keychain anyway.

That's why I'm suspecting its an offset reflector, because the centering ring is present and the LED does appear to be inside it. However, the LED mount itself could be off in the first place, given how even the centering ring isn't even... centered.

Do note however, how big that blemish is... probably only 1/3 die coverage, but its a good portion of the useable space on the die.

Please excuse the horrid blurry-ness, its difficult to photograph an LED through Olight's packaging =p

I carry a TI Olight I3 S2. It has a nice white tint, Cool slightly to the neutral side. I use eneloops on med or high or 10440 on low or med. momentary on high (10440) for the WOW factor when I am under a desk hooking up new computers. (Network Admin)

i had an iTP A1 that had a similar looking blemish on the dome. i think it was some sort of glue. the blemish wasn't as big as yours, but it did mess up the beam. i didn't bother returning it and instead tried fixing it on my own, unsuccessfully. it taught me to inspect all my light very carefully as soon as i get them.

btw, that pic you posted is HUGE.

I suspected it would, so its getting prepped for RMA right now. Granted its just going to be a backup light/battery carrier, I'd still prefer if the beam were proper though.

Is it? sorry, I should scale lower on the software... I just used my default batch processing size. Its also kinda hard to tell, because CPF sometimes scales it down, and sometimes it doesnt.

It's my replacement keychain light when my mini cr2 died on me.

Mine is tight and no mode skipping, pure white tint and centered led just like the others. :).

Just tried it! Heads of Preon 1 or 2 is compatible with the i3 head..

My i2 did this too. The threads on the screws have an amazingly tight pitch and very shallow threads.
