Today I noticed that there is a darker yellowish tint to part of the corona that is noticeable when shining the light on a wall. It makes up about 90deg. of the corona. When I looked at the bulb w/light off I could see what appeared to be a yellowish "glob"

on one side of the arc chamber. When the bulb cooled completely, the "glob" tuned more of a whitish yellow. May have been my eyes, though.

I have heard of metallic accumulations forming in this area over time, but not yellowish "globs".

Does anyone have any idea what this anomaly is?

Please excuse my nomenclature as I don't know what else to call it. It looks a little like petroleum jelly. No, really!

Perfectly normal for hid SunFire

BVH mentioned it in this post a while backl, which I saved since he stated it so well.

No worries. :)

Thanks for the help, guys.

I never saw that post before, but it answered my question. Also, the beam discoloration was caused by me. I had earlier extended the head forward playing around and forgot to screw it back in again. That was it. A-OK, now.

I have that same yellowish thing going on with my teking x1 35watt but when I roll the flashlight when its on... i could see something inside chamber moving around as if there's liquid inside the chamber. Is this normal as well?? I just got this flashlight tonight and I love it but.. I'm just concerned if I got a defetive bulb,

Thanks

Also normal for HID. Moving the light around, holding straight up, or down can cause this. Not all bulbs are effected equally by this and the harder the ballast drives the bulb the less this effect is noticed. The more under driven the bulb is the more this effect is noticed.

Fear not! Everything is fine. No flaw.

I hope you were wearing welders' goggles!:mecry:

You mentioned that the "thing" in the bulb moved around. Well I don't know for sure if it does, but when I'd rotate the light while in the horizontal position and shining against a wall, I could see the beam discoloration slowly move around to catch up with the light movement! Strange, isn't it? I guess it's because the "thing" is affected by gravity.

What else?

I guess it's time to accept this and move on.
