Just wanted to share my newly acquired P3D w/Aspheric & Rebel100 Throw Monster, this thing is crazy. Just took a beamshot with the focus tight in broad daylight.

Re: P3D Throw Monster

looks great, does the lens stick out of the bezel?

(do I see a pulp fiction poster on the wall there?)

To quote the eloquent Keanu Reeves..."Whoah."

Beamshot is kinda like a big waffle but I bet in real world / non-white wall application I bet it throws like crazy! Any chances we'll see some outdor night-time beamshots?

Heck yes, I will take some of my "world renowned" beamshots tonight.

I NEVER assume I can name names........ But now that you are here, PLEASE chime in on the specifics of this beauty.

:nana: No worries Tim, it was good to see you, glad you like the new toy... Anyway, nothing too crazy, it's a P3D Rebel from 4sevens and a 17mm x 12mm fl aspheric from Surplus Shed (PL1099 looking at the receipt). I cracked the bezel off with a couple strap wrenches, from there it's pretty simple, remove the reflector and figure out a way to shim the lens into the proper focus. There is a bit of adjustment left to the user, you can go from the tight "waffle" (which my son loved btw) to a nice even square.

p.s. Feel free to post pics of your pen in my ano thread, since we got sidetracked by the meat and 'taters:grin2:

Re: P3D Throw Monster

Nice work! Makes me want to play around more with mine, I didn't do a whole lot of adjusting with mine, just stuck it in, with the reflector, so I'd like to try again minus the reflector. This was my topic about my aspheric P3D awhile back, but with a Cree Q5:

Mess around and see what you can come up with, can't hurt right?

Re: P3D Throw Monster

OP, what happened to the pictures? They don't load for me :(

This is really probably a dumb question, but why is it square?

When you put an aspheric lens infront of the LED you are basically projecting an image of the LED. Think of a slide projector or film projector where the lens projects the image of the slide or film onto a screen. He's doing the same thing here, the lens focuses and projects an image of the LED. Since the LED is square, you get a square beam.

I see a waffle! lol foll of regular artifects too...
