Since the new Typhoon 2 will be a factory P4 light and the Fenix T1 uses a Q5.

On average what are the major differences in the beam quality. What seems to make the CREE so much more of a successful emitter than the P4.

I was just about ready to pull the trigger on a Fenix, but the Typhoon 2 seems to be just what I want even though it won't work on rechargeable batteries properly.

My limited understanding is the following.

Crees will take more heat so they can be driven harder and output more light. May be possible to sink an SSC well enough to take the same input, but that is not SSC's forte. Many say that the SSC is the state of the art right now.

SSC's have superior color, by comparison Crees are a little green.

For the amount of light, Cree does best. For beam quality, SSC has the edge. Depends what you want - brightness or best color.

With a given reflector and output, an SSC will put more light into the beam and less into the spill than the Cree.

I'd suggest changing the title to Seoul P4 VS Cree Q5 to avoid confusion with the Cree XR-E P4 bin.

If both emitters are used with an optic, then there shouldn't be much difference in beam pattern. But with reflectors, the Seoul P4s usually give a better beam.
