P60 Drop-in Contact Marking

Hi all! I was wondering how can one check a P60 LED module contact area/fitting...

I know there is a special machinist dye for this purpose, but what is the alternative for the common guy? Smoke, Permanet marker etc?

Smoke (candle soot) works. So does dry erase marker. I've used lipstick before too.
