I'm new to all this flashlight lingo. I don't fully understand what the terms "throw" "spill" "lumens" etc mean...

I bought the Pelican 7060 because I thought that it had the most light output for the longest amount of time for under $150. (Also looked at Inova T4, Stinger LED, and Surefire 6PL) I like the 7060, but it is a tad larger than I would have wanted.

Now from what I have read, it seems to me that the A9 is smaller, brighter, and the battery lasts longer than the 7060. Is this correct?

Someone mentioned that the A9 has more output. Does that mean it shines a farther distance, is brighter overall, or...?

Yes...

However the A9 would not be good for closeup work, because the beam is so tight (Good Throw, High Lux) with little side spill. It is also brighter overall (Lumens). Although you could get the Orange Peel reflector that will scatter the light a little giving more spill, less throw/lux, but keeping the overall output lumens.

What are you looking for in a light?

There aren't any single emitter LED lights that are functionally very much brighter than the 7060. Plus with the A9, you have to deal with charging bare lithium cells. And Pelican's warranty is unbeatable.

Maybe I'll upgrade my 7060 with an R-bin when they come out.

Well I don't have either lights, so I can only go by specs. But if I were to bet, I'd put my money on the A9 for being brighter, and throw further. It would be an interesting shotout though. I have no problem charging bare cells, but others may differ.

I'm looking for a pocket rocket, but I can see the Pelican being a good choice for Law Enforcement.

My $0.02

Is the beam tigher in the A9 than the 7060? I don't want something tighter than the 7060. I want a little spill so that I can see around me, but also be able to see 200' away from me as well.

The A9 looks like a great light. I have the 7060 and what makes it great is a bright medium spot that goes a pretty good distance. This is a nice change form a couple of other tight spot lights I own. The 7060's beam just reveals more of whatever I am looking at from 20-60 yards.

Which light I would get, depends on what you want to do. I am sure a Tiablo A9 will light up something better at 200 yards than a 7060. But I do not think either light will be that great over 70-80 yards. Beyond these distances you are going into the teritory of a HID. Look at StefanFS's 200 yard beamshots in the reviews section. Compare the lights at 200 yards with the 1 million candle power spotlight. In my opinion, only the spotlight really lights things up well at those distances. But thats just my opinion.

If the beem is too tight, just use the OP reflector. It will give more side spill.

You are correct that an HID will be ALOT brighter over far distances. See my CC below. However it's difficult to see anything at 200 yards without optics. So even if you have a powerful throwing light, it's not always useful at that range.

The good thing about the A9 is the OP reflector that will spread the beam out for more practical use. But who said blinding your neighbors isn't practical.
