I finally finished this baby last night around 3 AM. It is a NASCAR Fade as we call it, or Spectrum light as called by M@glite, with 5 Cree Q5's.

List of parts: :naughty:

NASCAR M@g host

Sandwich Shoppe heat sink

Sandwich Shoppe Shark converter board

Sandwich Shoppe McR19XR reflectors turned down to .650"

Cree Q5 WD(edit on the tint) tint emitters from Cutter Electronics

4 AW C cell batteries

UCL lens

Custom made copper heatsink for the Shark

To fit all four battieries in I shortened the bottom of the stock M@g switch in my lathe so that the positive end of the first battery touches the little V-shaped contact. The spring and the circular pad that holds it are gone.

I made a delrin sleeve to center the batteries in the M@g. I spot faced the center of the tailcap and shortened the spring. The trimpot has been removed and jumpered for the full 980ma.

A few pics. I don't know if I'll take any beamshots. I've neve done that before and I'm sure you all know what kind of light a penta Cree puts out. A heck of a lot! :duck:

Hope you guys like it.

Very nice looking light!

How is the heat sinking with that setup? I have a quad CREE Q5 driven at an amp with a buckpuck, in a C-cell Mag and it gets pretty warm after 15 minutes. My heatsink is probably not as efficient as it should be though.

The heatsink in this light started off as an aluminum C M@g tri/quad version from the Sandwich Shoppe. I like it because it is the full diameter of the inside of the head on the light. I turned the face of it flat so I could Arctic Alumina the 5 emitters down. It comes grooved for 3 or 4 Crees. Then I turned the threads off the bottom side, leaving a spud, and made a copper slug that is about 1 inch long and just fits inside the bore of the light. I bored out one end of it for a .002" press fit over the spud/tail of the aluminum heatsink, and pressed it on. Altogether it's pretty massive.

I haven't run it for a long time yet, and probably won't. This light is mostly for showing off, and I don't want to use it daily because I'll end up dropping it or scratching up the finish. Nor do I want to fin the head. I have other lights for general use.

I have plans to put 7 emitters in this light. I *think* I can fit them in with a lot of tweaking. I'll put that setup in this light and move the penta heatsink/emitters into another light with a finned head.

First time I recall seeing this kind of mod with a NASCAR host. Very nice light.

But I like the dual intake manifold even better.

What is it, and what does it go on?

Edit: Am I counting 10 tunnels?

Viper?

LOL, yeah you got it, it's a Dodge Viper intake manifold. It's on a twin turbo engine I'm working on at the moment. Should make about 1200 rwhp when finished. I thought it would make a decent background for the light.

Well, it's not my car. It belongs to a customer.

Actually, these cars do great in the corners. A lot of guys road race them. I don't know what you have, but a Viper with decent tires on it would certainly be some good competition for you.
