People with DBS and throwers, how often do you use them?

I want a DBS very badly(notice I do not need one), and was trying to justify my purchase :D. I can afford it, but hate buying things that do not get used. Sadly I doubt it would get much use and I would hate to have it sit there.

So all you DBS and other thrower owners, how often/what do you use your thrower for?

Thanks!

PS I live in Chicago, so my Q5 Z2, SF M6, P7 M@g are more than enough for my tasks.

I contemplated it for ages... I was worried it would be too big and I wouldn't use it much! but seriously its only like a 6P on steriods (size wise) and trust me you'll use it heaps... you'll find resaons to use it!

Glad you like the DBS I knew you would :poke: - out of all my lights it would probably be the last one I would let go of

Maybe you could use it like this:

I take my Tiablo A9 out every night when I walk the dog, and I find something to illuminate whether it needs it or not.

I suppose I'm weird in that I prefer and really like throwers over my other lights. I will be ordering a DBS sometime tomorrow.

I think I see some room on the right hand side of your bars for a DBS..;)

By a strange coincidence, I ordered a DBS a couple days ago  I must say, the Olight and MRV SK in the photo really do help me see further down the road, even with the DiNotte 600L on full blast. So the DBS should be even sweeter!

Tangentially: as powerful as the Olight and MRV look when aimed at a wall or across the back yard, they still don't look too bright when you skim them out across pavement at a super-shallow angle from 50 meters back. Being a bicycle headlight is not an easy job.

Hey DBS people... how long does Alan's "fast shipping" actually take to the continental U.S.? Anyone?

To really appreciate my DBS I have to be somewhere that is fairly open and dark. I can light things up at 800+ feet, but when I'm in town it isn't easy to find a clear stretch for 800+ feet, I have trouble finding a target 300 feet. There are buildings everywhere, light pollution, etc. However, when I take my kids for an evening stroll I walk out of town and get out into the country side where I may find myself walking down a long dark path. This is where the DBS comes in as I can check down the path for 800+ feet, I can blast it into the woods, penetrating the leaves and brush in the foreground (thanks to the thin beam) and light up things deeper into the woods.

However, it can be fun at closer distances. Sometimes if I'm at my parents' place I'll walk around their pond and see what kind of wildlife is about, usually frogs. At 15-20 feet if I come across a frog it's like it is sitting in a circle of daylight which sllows me to see a lot of detail, colors, etc. With my other lights, at the same range, it would light up the frog, but it wouldn't look like it was sitting out in full sun at high noon. :)

 that made me laugh out loud!!!

I find the same thing with my DBS V2. Those trees are just asking to be lit up.

Haha I thought it was only me that did that. I do it to umm make sure my lights are working, yeah thats it.

Thank you for your feedback guys which was not helpful at all. Because I think you guys pushed me to buy a DBS :mecry:.

I plan to order one end of the month or so unless I am out of town.

I've received Alan's stuff within a week and a half - twice (in Seattle area).

I use mine every night,I will find something to light up.If I can't find anything,
well! I just send my dog into the woods with the DBS spot "following" right on his a** :D

But I also use it indoors it's my go to light if I hear a noise.

It's not so much how often will you use it, it's more will it be there when you NEED it!

Get shopping

I live in a suburban area. My house is on a bike path and across the street from a school and park. Bored teens being much the same everywhere, I have to pull out my MRV or A9 regularly to "check" on rowdy activity. For some reason the light seems to encourage them to move along. I should also mention the skunks and raccoons.

I have a collection of LumaPower lights (DX1 w/ K2 TFFC, M1-T, MRV 2nd Gen), an RcatR aspheric Q4 and a handful of M@G mods (Quad Q5, single SSC). I rotate them as the dog takes me for walks. I became a flashlightaholic shortly after hurricanes Katrina and Rita.

During the recent hurricanes (Gustav and Ike) all my lights were used extensively at work and everywhere else. I normally have my Fenix P3D and LumaPower M1-T on my belt, but for the past few weeks while the power was out I carried most of my close at hand. I kept getting made fun of, but everytime I lit up every room in someones house or office the point was made, escpecially when they were wowed by the power of the Quad Cree. During the storms ALL my lights came in handy, even my aspheric M@G for some long distance spotting.

Since the storm I've been toying with getting a DBS because of the flexibility (multiple modes). A 40W solar panel is definitely in my future!

I use my Spear and WE Storm everynight to scout the farm. When the dog barks it is nice to be able to check things out. If I need more light I turn on the PH40, lights the field up like daylight!
Get the DBS- you'll find a use!:twothumbs
