Bought these H4 bulbs for summertime use, I do not want to burn Osram NightBreakers at summer use(they have only halv the lifespan than regular bulb)
I made some current measurement with power supply.
At 13.2V
EcoVision
Low 3.9A
High 4.3A

Normal (New Au-Lite spare bulb)
Low 4.9A
High 5.3A

I'll put Eco bulbs to my GF.s VW Polo tomorrow and test Nightbreakers current draw.

Osram +30% Well used
Low 4.35A
High 5.4A

Osram Nightbreaker used around 8000km, 5000miles
Low 4.85A
High 5.4A

These H4 bulbs say that they save 14 litres fuel by their lifetime, that would save exactly that what they cost. They were 21.5$ for a pair and fuel cost here now 1.56$ per litre.
Here is a link: www.philips.com/ecovision
There are also H1, H7 and some signalling lamps.

What do you think?
And no, I'm not going to buy any high cost Legal led DLR.s:grin2:

This is a different implementation of the same efficacy-improvement techniques used to make high-performance bulbs like Xtreme Power, Night Breaker, etc.: instead of producing more light than a standard bulb despite nominal (legal) power consumption, the EcoVision bulbs produce about the same amount of light as a standard bulb with somewhat reduced power consumption.

(Throw that Au-Lite garbage in the trash and get a bulb made by a real manufacturer for a spare.)

Mr. Scheinwerfermann,

With your professional knowledge of vehicle lighting, can you take a moment to recommend a solution to the frequent failure of H7 bulbs in '07 to current Dodge / Mercedes-Benz Sprinters?

If ordered with the DRL feature, or the van is in Canada, the low beam circuit including the tail and tag lights are used. The van owners at Sprinter-forums.com have reported consistent failure at about every 1 to 2 months. Is this vehicle related or just the normal life span of H7's ?

Is there anything We can do, change or modify to to rectify this problem.

Your Time is greatly appreciated,

Charles Ansman

Good question. Known issue. It's something of a complicated situation. The problem can probably be reduced, if not entirely eliminated. I don't want to throw this thread off topic, and I have just gotten very busy prepping for some travel. You'll probably get a faster/better by tossing an e-mail to Dan Stern see what comes back, and maybe post it here (in a new thread) for discussion.

bulbs that pay for themselves! Good marketability! How do they look compared to stock? pretty much the same?

QA, I am nowhere near as knowledgeable as Scheinwerfermann or Mr. Stern, but I do remember reading that DRLs usually just cut the voltage in half. This would have an effect on the cycle of evaporation and redeposition of tungston on the filament. do you have a failed H7 bulb? if you have one and it is blackened on the inside of the bulb, chances are that the DRL voltage is too low for that H7 bulb. try moving around to different brands?

Mine doesn't have the DRL's and I've only just taken possession of the van, I ordered it in Jan 5 and its just now getting here, Their made in Düsseldorf, Germany.

The bulb failure is common thru out the models (ie DRL or not) Also the DRL's run the low beam at full power, as nobody has mentioned that the bulb dims when the DRL is on.

The H7s don't have that long a lifespan to begin with.
So an H7 LL would help things out if the DRLs are driven at full power.

Headlight bulbs are covered by the new vehicle warranty.
