Thinking of getting either one, what you guys think it will be the most useful? Around the house, garage, look in the back of the pc or server room.
Help appreciated.

I had this decision a while ago and decided the freedom micro was the one for me because it was water resistant and had variable brightness.

I have both the Photon Freedom and X Micro with white leds. They are great lights and highly recommend them but can't get them to work with 2032 batteries.

Hmmmmmm. That looks tempting! I have plenty of 2016 cells and haven't been happy with my recent keychain lights.

I prefer the UI of the PhotonII as well as the fact that it can't really turn on accidently.

BUT ... given the battery power available, the low-mode capacity of the Freedom might be very important, especially with the white ones.

The deciding factor was the pimped-up versions of the Freedom where I lost my calm and bought them all  ... as well as some red and yellow PhotonIIs.

However, as gifts I only give away the PhotonII as the UI of the freedom is too much for SO, mum and dad.

Good tip Bernie, I will be getting one for my wife. I will get her the PhotonII and I will get the Freedom for me. Danke Schoen

Freedom is the ultimate, but not every one respects it or knows how to live with it.

Wow... only the Red one had made me buy another photon, but I can see I need the purple one, and the mustard one for sure....

Inexpensive enough, why not purchase both and give it a workout? Hope you find what you're looking for and Enjoy!

I can't believe that being into LED flashlights from the beginning that I only purchased both a Freedom and Photon II last month. I think it is due to the now efficient GS LED.

I have a 2032 cell in the Photon II and it is a very long running light that puts out decent light (probably about as bright as an original Arc AAA). Suprisingly useful.

The Freedom UI is great and allows this light to be very useful. The runtime of the Freedom can be several hours of decent light if it is adjusted down a bit or suprsingly bright for short bursts.

The build on these lights is much more reliable than the cheap knockoffs. Highly recomended.

If I recall correctly, Photon upgraded the leds in their lights last year but didn't change the packaging (I think from Nichia CS to DS but they may be using GS now).

Has anyone figured out how to tell which Led is used from the packaging? Especially with easily variable freedom, it makes sense to get the brighter and more efficient led.

If you can look side by side with one of known pedigree, the dome of the GS (what they are currently using) is longer, and sticks out more.

I agree with the others. The Freedom has a great UI. (If the AA Proton had the same interface, I'd own it, too.)

The other advantage of the Freedom over the Photon 2 is the no-tool-needed battery change. (Unless they've recently upgraded the Photon 2.)

The AA Proton and Proton Pro do have the same UI, just with the addition of red on the ramp up. I am planning on modding my Pro to be all white, making the perfect EDC light.

The PhotonII has still the 4 screws to change a battery. And no fancy little screwdriver supplied.

Good to know...thanks...makes it a little tougher to buy online. The difference between the different LEDS is pretty significant in terms of brightness and efficiency.
