Hi,

Now Maglite is rolling out LED versions of their larger flashlights, does anyone know if they are planning to introduce a LED Solitaire?

Thanks!

That would be nice, and it would make sense to have an LED instead of an incandescent in such a small light. It would improve the brightness considerably, and most likely the runtime too. The Solitaire is a nice form factor, just like the Arc AAA. I like the fact that the head is the same size as the barrell. Unfortunately I haven't heard anything yet.

I asked them right after their MagLED's came out, and their response was "we don't succumb to new gimmick technologies like the snake light fad."

Overheard in 1908: "Sir, your buggies are excellent, and I am very impressed with the new "poop catcher" option that automatically cleans up after the horse... but what do you think of these new "automobiles" that run without horses at all?

... and their response was "We don't succumb to new gimmick technologies like the "gasoline engine fad."

Thats very bad business minded and sad really, would never of expected something like this from a company like Maglite. I would of said to them "well you bought out a LED version of the AA Maglite so I assume your calling this a gimmick as well.

I ask myself though Mag make good torches are they really falling behind in technology to companies like Fenix and Led Lenser. While Fenix have already bought out a single AAA LED torch and which has been bought out for some time, sadly Mag are still back in the dark ages.

Ohh Maglite pls cut the bloody crap and wake up and move on with technology.

What the hell? What in the world are they talking about.
I always thought a single 5mm LED Solitaire would be awesome for the average person. Sell it for $10 or under and people would buy them up like crazy! Cause the Solitaire is completely useless as a flashlight and it REALLY REALLY needs an update!

Hopefully there is a plan but I wouldn't hold my breath about it. There are lots of other lights availible that would probably outperform it anyway. If they dont want to upgrade just vote with your wallet until they do. Usually that's the only message corporations will respond to anyway. I have 2 SnakeLights and they have their uses too.

You and I both know that, but the average flashlight user looking at the flashlight display in Wal-Mart, thinks that $5 is way too much for such a small light. I don't think that flashaholics make up much of a market share, when you look at the big picture of all the flashlights sold.

BTW, the Maglite LED lights don't seem to be moving as well as the regular Maglites.

I recently went to my local mega outfitter store, which I happen to like very much but will not name, cough*cabelas*cough, and they did not even have the drop in led mods for the maglites, which is one of the brands they carry. I was dissappointed, since I have three minimags that need to be changed over. Guess I'll have to check somewhere else. But it's probably true the average mag user is afraid of change....'I don't trust those newfangled leds'.....

Perhaps because:

1) $25 - $30 for an AA light that
2) claims 3 watts, but actually runs at a fraction of that, and
3) quits working when the internal contacts bend the first time you drop it.

Not to mention the Brinkmann 2xAA hangs a few rungs below it and retails for 13.00.
It advertises 1 watt yet I find it as useful as a MiniMagLED.
I have also tossed it up and let it smack the concrete a couple times already testing durability.

+1. The Minimag LED's are horribly engineered. Also, the emitter drops out of its socket after anything over a 5 foot fall. Gimmick technologies my foot. I think maybe they should just stick with incans.

You do realize that Mag doesn't make drop-ins for the MiniMags, right? Completely different hardware for the LED MiniMag, and no parts (except the batteries) are direct swaps to the MiniMags. The D cell LED Mags are the ones that are just a regular Maglite with a different (LED) bulb replacement, the rest of the flashlight is the same, and they sell LED drop-ins to replace the bulb on a C or D cell Maglite. There are several companies making MiniMag LED drop-ins, but not Mag themselves.

I too think that an LED Solitaire would make a lot of sense, but they wouldn't be able to sell it for much over $10-12.

I doubt Maglite discusses their long term marketing strategies with some shmo that calls their 800 number. Back up your slander with references next time before spreading rumors about a reputable US company bub.

I am wrong and I apologize because the tort is not slander, its defamation and possibly libel as well because it is in writing. It is not cool, nor is it legal. I'll be happy to inform Maglites legal department if you insist.

Defamation: intentional publication (communication to a third party) of a false statement that is harmful to the plaintiff's reputation. Look up Cubby v. Compuserve, NY 1991, and while you're at it, how about Stratton Oakmont, Inc. v. Prodigy Services Co, 1994, or how about Sidney Blumenthal v. Matt Drudge and AOL, 1997.

:welcome: we enjoy a friendly environment for the most part. You must be really proud of yourself for memorising all those legal references...

now be nice, its very possible that Marduke did call them up and someone said that, its also possible that the cust service rep doesnt know that much. Its also possible that maglite really isnt going to make a led solitaire. There are many possibilities...so dont start flaming someone, tell them in a nice way what you think...
