Planning to mod a 2D M@g - should I get the regular one or the M@g LED? Differences?

I'm going to do a 2xD Mag with one of the anodized Hotlips-D from LITEmania. Is there any reason I should get the regular mag over the Mag LED, because Walmart has the Mag LEDs on sale right now. Thought I might take advantage. Are the reflectors different?? Things like that.

Also, is there a reason to use the C cell mag over the D cell mag for an aspherical mag build??

They the same light, the LED even has the spare incan. bulb in the tail.

Get the cheapest, or if you may want to use the MagLED module at some point elsewhere, get that one if the price difference is less than the module on its own.

Cool cool - thanks.

Is there a reason that people use the C-cell Mags instead of the D-cell mags? I was planning to use a 2xD NiMH with a VIP-1000 driver I have here to drive the LED. Not sure if there are benefits to the D cell or C cell bodies, heads, etc. for an aspheric build.

Apart from the fact that the C cell are smaller and lighter than the D cell bodies, for a 2 cell LED mod I guess the only difference would be runtime - D NiMH can be higher capacity than C, although this depends on the cells chosen - cheaper ones are about the same as an AA!

The difference in bodies/cells is more significant for hotwires. 6AA fit into a 2D but not into a 2C.

Both will fit 2x 18650 or 2x AW LiIon C cells (with a minor mods and battery holders/sleeves).

The same lens and reflector fit both.

If you don't mind posting a photo of that VIP-1000 driver.
Thanks.

Well, it's right here if you want to take a look at it from the website. I could also take pictures of mine if you need me to, but the pic on the site is good enough to tell. I like this thing, because I only want a 2-D form factor, and this driver works fine with 2.4V of NiMH goodness.

My aspheric runs 3 AA NiMHs in D-cell holders direct drive.

yes, please post your driver complete with the lead wires attach.
i appreciate it.
Thanks.

Not exactly sure what you are looking for here...I mean, the wiring diagrams are on the website. Regardless, here is a VIP-1000 which was installed in another light for a while.

I need to unsolder the red wire and solder in a new, longer one. I use a single piece of electrical tape with a slot cut in it to cover the bottom of the board and prevent the positive terminal of the driver from short circuiting with any ground point.

Thanks wintermute - very clear photo.
You mentioned you have installed this in another light.
Which light and how is the output using this driver with 2 x nimh?

It was installed in an Elektro Lumens XM-3, but now that has the VIP-750...I wanted more runtime and I wanted to use the VIP-1000 in a 2D cell, single LED Mag mod.

...coming soon to a thread near you.
