Do you need to use it underwater?

If not I would get a leadlight from Abeland here on these boards (I could have his name wrong, please correct if so).

Someone can point you to his CPF special which is the best deal.

After finding that I recommend calling and talking to him.

He will answer any questions and get you the right green laser for your needs.

Nice guy and a good range of products.

As you are looking to spend $80 shipped you have a few choices.

I'd say more but don't know the current rules about laser talk.

Give him a call, I have 2 of his and love them both.

Forensic quality???

Unrealistic claims for a <5mW laser pointer

Being able to use a laser pointer under water is nice but pretty useless unless you have specific plans.

A Lanyard is nice but once again pretty useless.

That seller has a good rep on ebay but they are not a laser specialist.
 
I just "took one for the team" as it were...we should know within the next week or two if this laser's all it's cracked up to be or if it's a PWPOSMF as I would call it. :thumbsup:

Plans like ... rain outside, dropping it in a puddle, having to clean it ...

Water resistance is always nice to have, and I will not buy a flashlight without proper seals. Only the lasers seem to be retarded in this way. Even a cheapo Maglite has o-rings.

I agree, having a laser that is water resistant is nice. Being able to be used under water though is a lot less useful and likely to involve an increase in cost. Unless you plan on doing something like scuba diving or pointing to objects in aquariums (not withstanding reflection and refraction problems), being able to be used underwater is useless.
 
I received another product yesterday that I purchased from the same seller on the same day, so with some measure of luck, I should have this laser tomorrow (Monday 01-08-07); I'll begin my evaluation of it immediately upon receipt.

I received this laser awhile ago this afternoon.

Power output measures 4.1535mW on a laser power meter.
And a spectrographic analysis of it shows the presence of an IR filter.

It is ***NOT*** however, waterproof. The unit admits some air when the barrel is suctioned; and there is no O-ring on the tailcap.
 
Bummer about the waterproofness.


It looks like the same laser z-bolt sells.
I would love to get this thing in a higher mW rating.
It seems like the perfect size laser to me,that and the fact that it uses one CR123 makes it a winner.



How would you say build quality is and do you think it could be waterproof i a O-Ring were placed in the tailcap?
Does it even have a groove for a o-ring?

It does look exactly like the one Z-Bolt sells

I was able to pot mod mine and now it is much brighter and seems to be able to handle it. I did have 1 small problem with mine after I took it apart to clean the lens I managed to break the solder joint for the module away from the pc board.

I thought the method of construction was quite poor in that regard. The pin on the module is about 3-4mm short of the PC board contact and that distance was just bridged with a blob of solder.
It was an easy fix though. I just soldered a piece of resistor lead in place and all was well with the world again. :)

Apart from that little problem I am very happy with my first laser and anxiously waiting my 2nd.

From what I can tell simply by handling it & looking at it, build quality is ok...not spectacular, but not "craptacular" either.

There is no groove in the tailcap *specifically* for an O-ring, but one *could* be installed in the non-threaded area between the end of the threads and the start of the tailcap. This laser does admit air from somewhere in its "business-end" though, so adding an O-ring to the tailcap will *NOT* make it waterproof.

I just wish someone could come up with a decent laser in that size that is waterprrof and 50mW+
Those bulky CR2 powered Lasers doesnt quite do it for me,and whats the deal with not using a IR filter..seriously how much would it cost to add a lousy IR filter in a laser...
