Hi all,

I'm in the search of safe chemistry 18650 li-ion batteries that are available for purchase online (likely an internationnal order).

My requirements are :
- At least capable of safely providing 3Amps+ continiously
- 3.6 or 3.7V nominal (so can't be A123 system 18650 cells)
- highest capacity as possible

I have a RC hobby charger so charging li-ion with CC-CV charge is not a problem. I can set whatever charge rate I need. I can charge to 4.1 or 4.2V at my convinience.

Can someone point me to the cells that fit my bill?
I'm confused about which safe cells are available for purchase.

Thanks :)

There are only two (generally available) safe lithium chemistries: LiFePO4 and IMR. LiFePO4 have lower voltage, so that leaves only IMR. AW sells them. Dunno if cheap ones are available.

Here is a link to the AW IMRs:

The capacity is a bit lower compared to the LiCO "unsafe" cells at 1600mah vs. 2200mah. AW's cell are great quality and I use mine rather frequently in most of my lights - I don't own another brand of rechargeables.

After reading more about the IMRs I have finally elected to stick to protected 2200mAh cells for now. Thanks anyway for the info, I'll keep them in mind in the future.
