I snapped a few more fotos tonight...Finally the weather cooperated. No Photoshop except the addition of the logo/text, just as they are.

The mist is steam rising from the building vents....Pretty cool effect.
I did not Laser Range find the distance, but Google Earth tells me it was 310 yards.

I wish I would have taken the time to point the beam upward 45 degrees against the skyline....Darn it....
We were pointing at the boat on the corner of the dock 300+ yards away.

Ken some close up photos of you actually holding the 40 would be great. Just to get a better idea on the size of the light in ur hand in relation to ur body and the sorroundings. :devil:

All these photos were with a Polarion PH40 HID Searchlight.

On the photo front:

I have found that in fairly dark conditions f/5.6 somewhere in the 5 second range, ISO 400 (at least with this camera - Nikon D40X) gives you the most accurate representation of the color you see with your eye.

I played with ISO 200 the other night and found to get any real sense of the beam, the exposure time was thru the roof.

The one from the grass, across the water, with the really blue sky was shot at f/11 for 13.0s. I was more interested in taking an image that was more on the composition side as opposed to the technical side of the equation. I was trying to get a more clarity out of the objects in the distance. Higher f/stop meant I added more time on the clock.
My older brother Larry is the "model" in these images and he put up we me for 3 cold/wet nights. His was tasked with remaining absolutely still, which is not easy to do.

The LED's are on in each shot because each shot went like this:

Compose the shot. Take a break.
Verify the shot again, get ready, light on, don't move, open the shutter (up to 13 secs), relax. I used an IR remote to open and close the shutter and just estimated time on some of the shots that came out pretty well.

The LED's stay on for 15 secs upon each activation of the light.

HIDSGT: I will try and get some different kinds of shots with more of the user as opposed to the beam. Also don't hold your immediate breath for a smaller 30-watt from Polarion, its still a ways off.
