Power Possibilities For 5761 Mag Mod?

I was just wondering what are the different power possibilities for a 5761 mag mod. I an open to using any size mag. Also, since there are no battery holders for groups of 6 AA in parallel in either a 3 D or 6 D which I was considering using how would I make a holder. Also, does the beam with a mirror reflector really look that bad and where would I get cammed mag reflectors? All the ones on light edge are camless.

If you're using a 6D just use 6 D NiMH cells for the highest capacity (and least wasted space). Good D cells can supply over [email protected] to run the 5761 for nearly two hours!

Cammed is useful if you want to be able to quickly switch between PR bulbs (like the ROP) and bipin bulbs (like the 5761) using FM's bipin adapter, or just prefer focusing with a half turn. Otherwise the Kiu bipin socket has much lower resistance, higher temperature capability and lower cost, while working with widely available textured camless reflectors (though most of those don't already have the large opening necessary for fat bulbs like the 5761). Extra switch assemblies are cheap and not too time-consuming to change in case you ever do want to swap in potted/PR bulbs, so it's not like some irreversible mod.

The 5761 may be somewhat touchy with cells that don't sag immediately though, so it may be wise to consider regulation or an inline resistor somewhere in the tailcap or Kiu wire.

If you are unhappy with the beam, it can always be further smoothed by frosting the bulb when using any reflector.

Many options, anything 6 cell NIMH should work... Li-ion can also be done, 2 of AWs "C" size li-ions is a possibility in a 2C mag with AW extender, but I think that in low-resistance configuration they require multiple taps to ignite a 5761 (this is the last I heard, that may be different now, not 100% sure on this but figured it's worth mentioning).. In theory, you could build a custom setup in an un-bored mag with 4 17670 cells (2s2p), or I believe a slightly bored host will take 2 18650s abreast, so run 4 18650s (again 2s2p)...

few ideas for "drop-in" solutions that require minimal custom pack building...
1. I *think* 6 sub-Cs might fit in a 5C mag if you take a few windings off the stock spring. Or if you could get ahold of one of the old 6C versions, just use 6 C size NIMH.
2. 6 1/2 D cells will fit in a 4D mag (they are slightly longer than half a D, so won't fit in a 3D)
3. BFG already mentioned the 6Ds in a 6D.

Are there any cammed reflectors I can use and still be able to do the mod? Also, I was also thinking about using 12 aa in a 4d 6s2p for ease of obtaining the batteries. How large of a mag would it take to handle the 4 17670 cells? I can't bore so the other cells are out of the question.

For 6 sub C in a Mag 5C grind out the tailcap and reshape the spring.

To use 4x17670 you will not need to bore out the M*g "D" body but will take 2.5D length.
To use 4x18650 (2S/2P) like this, you will need to heavily bore out the 2.5D body and make your own battery pack.
You can also tri bor 2.5D like this for 3P/2S 17670
To use rechargeable AAs, you will need 6AA to 2D or 6S/2P like this in 3D
How about 6xA in 2D M*g or even 6AA in fat body like this?
If you realy need to drive 5761 for longer run per charge, You can use 6x18650 in oversized body.
Non of them available now but will give you some ideas which to choose and start from.
BTW, 6x(4/5 Sub C) will fit in 4C M*g.
