Re: ProMagnum - 2AA, 4AA or 6AA or 2 D cell operat

Here is the updated list:

jtice - Semi-drop in DIY + 10 battery holders
Monolth - TK + 10 battery holders
rdf - TK blue + 10 battery holders
rick258 - TK red, titanium + 20 battery holders
haveblue - TK
starlight - TK blk 3 battery holders
Zephyr - TK titanium
rookie - TK black + 6 battery holders
marcspar - TK Purple, Pewter, Silver, Black, or Green
Merkava - TK
vacuum3d = Semi-drop in DIY + 4 battery holders
Alan - TK

Also, there are TX1J Luxeons on the way.

The only thing left is to order the battery holders Monday.

jtice - The semi-dropin DIY would consist of this:

Plus a battery holder. However, due to variations in Maglites, there is no way to guarantee a perfect fit. You may need to file/grind/sand on the battery tube to make it fit. Or, just the same it could fit fairly loose. 0.003 inch doesn't sound like much, but it can make the difference between a good fit and no fit. Also, you will need to trim the bulb post off the switch, trim the reflector, and mod the battery holder.

Monolith - If it's a rare color or something, but shipping isn't cheap for full size Maglites. Also, it would need to have a D at the beginning of the serial number. I would really rather start with a brand new flashlight, but if you want to send one just make sure it's fairly new and not corroded.

Alan Hsu - Yes, I could sputter the reflector if desired.

Ok, pricing - The converters are little expensive, so for a DIY semi-dropin with Luxeon mounted and converter wired and epoxied to the heatsink with battery holder, $60.00.

A complete TK flashlight will run $85.00.

I'm working on the convertion instructions for the battery holders, both 3V and 9V, and will try and get those posted here for reference later.

Yer a mind reader; I was going to ask if you would include instructions for modding the batt holder w/ the shipment.

Thanks for the update!

For mine I'd like a complete ProMag any color but black. Surprise me on the color of the case.

And 5 of the holders would be perfect.

You're doing a great service, thank you.

I was thinking copper, but didn't know if you have a Target handy, if not, pewter will do. I picked up a new copper one a couple of weeks ago - that is why I was asking if it would make it easier on you to send you one.

Question:

Does the TK unit includes the 6AA battery holder in series already?

Hi Kevin,

Will having a sputtered reflector affect the beam that much? From your first shots, there doesn't seem to be any artifacts. Is a sputtered reflector recommended?

Also, does the new Mags have a glass lens?

Re: ProMagnum - 2AA, 4AA or 6AA or 2 D cell operat

Here is the updated list so far:

jtice - Semi-drop in DIY + 10 battery holders
Monolth - TK Copper + 10 battery holders
rdf - TK blue + 10 battery holders
rick258 - TK red, titanium + 20 battery holders
haveblue - TK (suprise color - not black)
starlight - TK blk 3 battery holders
Zephyr - TK titanium
rookie - TK black + 6 battery holders
marcspar - TK Purple, Pewter, Silver, Black, or Green
Merkava - TK
vacuum3d = Semi-drop in DIY + 4 battery holders
Alan - TK
Alan Hsu - titanium + sputtered + glasss
JonSidneyB - TK titanium

rdf - I will post a web page on my site with the instructions and link to it from this thread. That way in the future you won't have to search for this thread to find the instructions.

haveblue - thanks..

Monolith - Yes, the Target here has bronze. If yours in only a couple weeks old, then sending it would be no problem. I'm just gun shy from some I've gotten in the past that needed an hour of clean up work before they were even near ready to mod.

Alan Hsu - I'll check on the glass lens. I think they were about $3.00, but will get back to you with the cost.

jtice - Yes, we have copper available

haveblue - Yes, even copper Baglites available

Zephyr - The TK will come with the battery holder ready to load with batteries and drop in. For this mod, the cells are connected in parallel for 3V.

rookie - Beam artifacts are in the eye of the beholder. In normal use, you probably won't ever see any. However, shinning against a white wall, yes there are slight variations. Sputtering the reflector can make the beam perfectly smooth, but you do loose some peak lux.

To my knowledge, Mags still come with plastic lens.

JohnSideyB - Is that one additional battery holder besides the one that comes with the TK?

At this point I count 63 battery holders. I need 20, so that leaves 17 available. I'll dig up the price for glass lens and post that here later.

Monday I'll start shopping Mags on my way home from work for those that have stated their color choice. Things are coming together and it looks like everything is on schedule.

Copper would be nice as a first choice. Any color after that is good. No black. And five drop in holder if you could.

/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/grin.gif...Thanks a million times.

Great idea! Thank you.

Have you noted any of the famous "resistance" problems w/ these battery holders, and if so is there some sort of prep or periodic maintenance we'll need to do to them?

Also ... only if you haven't already purchased a blue body ... can I change to copper? If you've already bought the blue, I'll take that, of course.

Thanks!

If you can easily get the bronze/copper, I will not mail you one. That'll save some back and forth hassles. I'll take a UCL lens if you're going to offer them, if not, I'll just get one directly.

Thanks.

Lambda, Sence you need to pick up the Copper/bronze mag for me anyway, I guess you might as well make mine a TY unit also. /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/icon3.gif

Thanks for doing this! /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/thumbsup.gif
