PT EOS with SSC P7 - (didn't really work out)

I bought a bunch of parts from kaidomain - Cree emitter, Cree star, Cree optics and a SSC P7. For some weird reason (probably drinking too much or not enough) I thought I'd try to jam the P7 into a PT EOS. I knew there was no real way to mount it, it would simply have to be free standing. Fortunately, even with no heatsinking, it didn't get much over 50C at the high setting, 300ma. Didn't get very bright either, although naturally the hotspot was huge. Compared to my stock EOS wth a SW0H star, the P7 was slightly brigther. (LED only, neither one had an optic or a reflector).

A little later I found a reflector from a Bushnell 3W light. The Bushnell's switch failed long ago and I tossed it, saving the reflector. I enlarged the hole and trimmed the length to fit the EOS. There's no hole in the beam, but not much throw either. Wasn't worth taking beamshots, the P7 has been removed and the EOS is now destine for another evil experiment. At the EOS's three drive current levels of 300, 100 and 20ma, I measured the P7's Vf at 2.81, 2.70 and 2.60 volts.

That's not at all surprising, given that the P7 maxes out at 2.8A ;)

Have you tried a P4? You;ll get more impressive results.

No big surprise there but nothing wrong with trying for experimentation purposes I guess. Sometime that experimenting really pays off!
