Newly Enlightened
Okay, this is only my second post and my first review, so please have patience!
I just got my M90 Rattlesnake from PTS last night before work. I love this thing!
First, the delivery time was right on; no delays. Then i open the shipping box and find two beautiful gift boxes inside, one for the flashlight and one for the conversion kit - both are keepers.
The M90 is pretty amazing - especially since this is my first "real" light. My first baby is a Blackhawk Falcata 9v which I will always have a use for, but the M90 is the top of the list.
The finish is classic black and the body has the same checkering found on some 1911's whch is perfect for gripping with or without gloves. The tailcap switch seemed a bit difficult at first but then again the switch on my Falcata is more pronounced, so maybe I just need to get used to it.
Power comes from two (in this case) rechargable LRB-168A Li-ion batteries that PTS was kind enough to send almost fully charged.
The supplied bulb is rated at 200 lumens and puts out a nice bright white wall of light without any dark spots or distortions. I tried it last night in a darkened hallway and was impressed to say the least.
Included with the flashlight is a CH-O2 fast smart AC charger with two slots for the 168A's. The included information says that it should take approximately 3 hours to fully charge dead batts. There is an internal safety to prevent over-charging so leaving the batteries in overnight should not be a problem.
Nice light. Not to heavy.
But I couldn't stop there. No. Had to get the 13v conversion kit and the 700 lumen bulb to boot!
The conversion kit comes with 3 of the same LRB-168A's and an "extender" for the flashlight body. With that screwed on, this monster almost looks like it is a foot long, but it is not unweildy. The extender lets you add that 3rd batt to the normal 2 batt body. Re-attach the tailcap to the extender.
Simply unscrewing the head is all it takes to drop in the D36 E0-13 700 lumen lamp from Lumens Factory. Now that is a treat! I never had anything that bright before! Again, white, bright and clean! I tried that bulb out in a decent sized parking lot at about 11pm - damn near lit up the entire lot. Poor guy in a truck about 1/2 the way down jumped in his seat when the beam hit his window. Sorry I don't have the exact distance, but it's big enough for the local PD to use as a driver training site on the weekends.
Also included with the conversion kit is another charger that lets you remove the tailcap, re-attach a similar cap and plug the light into to the wall! Haven't tried it yet.
Finally, one more goody from Mike at PTS - he sent me a holster for the light. I guess I had forgotten to order one and he knew from experience that I'd need one - so he was cool enough to send it along. The holster is made from the usual black nylon, but is a lot cleaner than any I have seen recently. No crooked seams. Good enough to ride on your duty belt.
Okay, so yes, I am pleased with my new toy. It is only recently that I got "into" flashlights and now that I am beginning to see what is available, I can tell where my next few paychecks are headed.
PTS is the only other manufacturer/dealer besides Blackhawk that I have had any real contact with. I am happy with the product and the service I have received and would recommend to anyone who isn't familiar with them to check them out.
