Hi folks,

I have bought several lights from DX now, and true to form its been a lottery! i order 4 RC-G2 single AA P2, and one had a milky white dome over the LED, which on closer inspection fell off! now it doesn't work.

I dont know if i should send it back or do my first ever mod!(well apart from turning a 2D M*LITE to a 3C, basic stuff!) and slot a Q5 or R2 on top.
I think you just undo the solder, apply some thermal past, re solder and thats it, is it that easy?
Also would the driver (regulator?) support these mods, i would rather not touch the driver, but if it is very easy i would give it a blast! im not to bothered if it wont power it to its full potential, as long as it gives a big jump in performance.

Please go easy on me this is my first attempt and this is the only donor flashlight i have, so easy advice please!

Thank you

Thanks for the link,

just another quick question, will i need new thermal paste on a brand new light? does this stuff set hard or just stay soft? i think im gonna go for the Q5 and stock regulator

Also i see you are a flashaholic so if you could give me some forum advice please, how can you see the posts you create or comment on? i have to remember them and search at the minute but surely there must be a way of doing this from the control panel????

Or click on your screen name and then click statistics and it will show an option of user posts.

If it's thermal paste as opposed to thermal glue it stays relatively soft. When you take out the P2 clean it up a bit and use some more thermal paste. DX sells small tubes as does Radio Shack.

You'll need to get something on a 14mm board, so an R2 is out unless you want to get it from cutter or somewhere (DX/Kai only sell Q5s on that size board)

If you want to get all threads you're subscribed to easiest way is to through the My Control Panel - User CP link in the top left corner.

Thanks for the help guys, its much easier navigating this thing now i have a better idea on how to use it!

I have took the P2 board off and i am waiting for my Q5 to come from DX, but 2 things, one it appeared to be held on with silocone? is this an option that works or is it thermal stuff and im just mistaken.

also it is on a 16mm board not a 14, so which is best to go for?

if 16 will fit it doesn't matter, obviously theres no harm in having a smaller board. The white stuff holding it on should be thermal adhesive, it might not be, but you should definitely use some to stick the new one down!
