I am not new to modding , but am new to the 'Hot wire' world.

I am about to mod a M*g 2D with items from FM.
My question is heat. Will the plastic tower at the top
of the switch be affected by the heat from a WA 1111 bulb.
This seems to me to be an area of potential problems.
Has anyone made a metal mod to this switch?
I know something similar has been offered for a 'C' m*g but not a 'D'.
Thank you

The most heat resistant solution for a hotwire is Kiu's bipin bulb kit which replaces the stock bulb holder with a metal and ceramic one. An added benefit is that the bipin bulbs are cheaper and more reliable than the PR based ones.

I have ran serval mods with 1111s. Have not seen any melting with just a bipin adaptor to pr screwed in and ran the light without insulation.

Thanks for the comments and suggestions. I feel I will be fine using WA1111
but was just interested in how the heat was handled with a higher voltage and output bulb. Kiu's mod looks excellent.

It is not just the switch that can melt. How hot does Tungsram 56580 get? Pic below is an old kel-lite I modded to run on 3xA123, and the Tungsram with Kiu socket and kiu heat sink.

I forgot to upgrade the O ring. that blue stuff dripping down the reflector is the old Kel Lite's lens ring.

Well I can't wait till all my bits and pieces arrive. Got to learn to walk before running and a WA1111 will get me started without melting anything.

But the possibilities are amazing.......

You will be alright if you have bought FiveMega gear. His golden PR-to-bi-pin adapter isolates the heat from the tower very nicely, and the ribbed section on the back of the reflector acts as a nice little heat sink. Very little heat is transferred into the tower. I have a ROP, which is practically identical to teh WA1111 mod, and no problems at all.
