I have a ROV 3w C-cell light with the TIR talked about a little and have found it to be an excellent thrower. For less than $30 I think it probably competes with anything available even the DBS. My point is not which is best or how they compare, but how their throw abilites compare. You may save a few people a lot of money. Thanks!

I also have the Ray o vac 2 c cell cree light. It is an excellent light for throw as you said, however- the DBS and most other Led light with a larger reflector will outthrow the ROV by a good distance. THey do this by concentrating the light to a very small spot. THe ROV light has a much larger, and very useful spot in my opinion.

Do you have both? I don't but I don't think the ROV 3C will be able to compete with a Dereelight DBS. I'll have to do a little testing tonight with the ROV 3C and some of my other lights and how it fares.

I compared my ROV 3C to my Regalight WT1 v2 and the WT1 v2 just smoked it at distance throw. I will add the disclaimer that the ROV 3C was powered from 3 NiMH batteries and does not have a boost circuit (just a dropping resistor), so it would have been brighter with with Alkalines. At the distance I was targeting I couldn't tell which had a tighter spot. The bottom line is that Dereelight beats the Regalight in throw and the Regalight beats the ROV.

Even my ROV 3C modded with a Cree Q5 can't touch the DBS. :) Sorry, not in the same league. :) I think my Dereelight CL1H even out throws it.

I don't have a DBS, but I do have a Spear (which is nearly identical in throw) and the Spear completely crushes the Rayovac 3C in terms of both throw and total output. I can do some numbers tomorrow so you have a better idea, but the Rayovac has around 6,000 lux, while the Spear has around 21,000!
If you haven't seen one of these super throwers in person they are VERY impressive!
