Hi, Im new to flashlights and Im looking for the best bang/buck RC123 light to pocket EDC. It is my understanding that not all lights works well with RC123s? Like the fenix pd20 for example, will only work on turbo mode until the rechargeable cell loses a considerable ammount of its charge, only then do the lower lumen modes become functional. I was hoping for a light which can use all of its functions on a RC123 cell, unlike the fenix, if thats possible.

There is the nitecore extreme which seems interesting, anyone have experience with those? Do those pair well with rechargeables?

I find novatacs kind of expensive for only 120lumens. Are they really worth it? All their modes work with rechargeables?

Any other suggestions? thanks,

IMHO 120 lumens is nothing to sneer at. Perhaps not the brightest nowadays but certainly more than bright enough for general use. I have a Novatac 120P and aside from the output, it has a very nice beam profile with a good mix of hotspot and spill, decent throw, and is built like a tank. I have had it for years, taken it on many overseas trips, dropped it onto concrete floors and asphalt roads, banged it against all sorts of hard surfaces, carried it with keys, coins, etc. It still works great. I love it and it continues to see use today, though I now own many other lights which are brighter. :)

Ultimately, whether it is worth it or not is up to you since you decide what you find to be worth your money. IMHO, given what I value in a flashlight, the Novatac was worth the money I spent on it. YMMV

Another light worth considering if you are looking for lights designed to use an RCR123A is the LiteFlux LF3XT. I have one and I consider it to be an excellent light as well. Not quite as heavily built as the Novatac but it also offers an excellent beam profile and I think it is an excellent EDC light.

IIRC the Nitecore lights work well with RCR123s.

Also look at the Liteflux LF3XT and Jetbeams, they also works well with RCR123s.

As deranged_coder said the 120L may not seem like much but it is so versatile that I find I use it more than my other lights.

I run mine on an AW RC123A battery, Novatacs are designed to run on either a CR123A or a RCR123A battery.

You could also look at the Ra Clicky. It is made by the designer of the Novatac line.

I ended up going with the (4senvens.ca)Nitecore extreme R2, 1x RC123 750mah, AW's Dual Bay Fast Charger AW-139 (18650 - RC123) 154$ cnd, + (ebay seller) ~30$cnd for 8x Ultrafire protected 880mah

Hope everything turns out alright. 4sevens.ca ships 2-3 days apparently, with no hidden fees, so the 880mah batteries should arrive 1-2weeks later.
